    Default Tracing

    Hi,

I have two 6.5 mm sheets of birch waterproof plywood in my garage - for: bottom, bulkhaeds, knees, bottom buttstraps and deck camber template.

This afternoon and evening I've traced dimensions of bottom (bulkhaeds and knees positions), bulkhaeds, buttstraps and positions of deck camber template. Tommorow I will to trace knees and bottom's and deck camber's curves.

Tommorow I will expect for appointed 3 sheets of 4 mm ply - for: sides, deck, centrecase.

    Aloha!

    Default Tracing and cutting off

Today was beautiful day - no rain, warm... good for hardworking boatbuilder ...

I've traced curved lines of bottom and sides and I've cutted off sides from 4 mm ply.
    Sides are ready for glue.

Few photos soon - I can't upload photos to my Flickr Hoping than tomorrow morning will be better...

    Question for Boatmik - Moderator:
Can you change title of this thread to "Beth - YanFen - building in Poland"?
    Aloha!

Default Tracing and cutting off - PHOTOS

UFFF! I've uploaded photos to Flickr... than...

Tracing cuves for sides - I've used 1/2" PVC NIBCO tube and few brics:

Tracing curve for bottom - the same methode :

Note: All points designed by Michael are very accurate - with no problems I've traced fine curves !!!

Cutting off sides with 2-3 mm outside marigin - I've used hand jigsaw (I've not trusted in my electric jigsaw) - cutting off 4 mm ply was "with pleasure" but I suppose than cutting off bottom from 6.5 mm ply will be harder... :

I've used few timber boxes for apples from our fruit garden:

    Sharp shaping wih plane:

Two panels of sides are ready and they were as a models for tracing duplicate side's panels:

Two complete side panels are ready for glue:

Howdy Robert ... the most important boatbuilding tip is that when you are doing two of the same item for each side of the boat it is ideal to lay everything out in symmetrical pairs as you have with the last photo above.

It is probably the most important thing to avoid serious mistakes (I know you know! But someone else will be reading this!

    Hi MIK

Just wondering, would it be possible to use the PDR Lug mast and sail on the Beth alone, ie, only one mast?

Or as the front mast and sail, and then have the rear one as per plan/ adjusted acording to the PDR front rig?

Just thinking, a Beth would be great for solo sailing where I have to move it around on my own...

What about centre board and rudder?

    Cheers....
    Nick

    Howdy Nick,

The PDRacer lug is bigger than BETH's whole rig!

But if you are going to use PDR tech for Beth's sails (ie the better quality polytarp) just make a set for Beth as well. It is only going to cost about $50 or less if you are already set up after the PDR sails.

Remember my caveats that BETH - She is great, but she capsizes pretty easily unless you know what to do.
