Default BETH "YUanFen" on Zegrze Reservoir

    Hi All,

This day I've launched my sailing canoe BETH "YuanFen" at Zegrze Południowe on Zegrze Reservoir.
Morning on the beach - before rigging:

    Just before departure:

Southern coast of Zegrze Reservoir - break for answer the cellphone:

Beautiful summer's sun! Wind 0-3 in Beaufort scale - one short "thermic" gust circa Force 4 - I've hikied boat with easy mainsail but boom struck by the water.
BETH fantastic semi planing in Force 3 under full sails and she is brilliant and really fast! As I have recently wrote: She is easy to maneuver on land it singlehanded and easy for trailering and roofracking. She draws attention to its characteristic appearance and speed - she is the attraction of the waters which she will be on.

Even the water police arrived to admire her
My friend who saw me - he could not catch up on the sailboard!
Sailors on two Finns and one OK-dinghy - They said it was amazing, when all stood, and I flew to a forward

    By the way:
    * I don't like not pivoting rudder's blade - it's really not comfortable in starting and landing - our waters really shallow and sometimes unavailable...
    * I need to work with my lug sails to be more powerful and faster - adjustments and settings...

    ***
PS: Photos from my cellphone. Unfortunatelly I have not sailing photos and videos but I've seen few of sailors with cameras whenever they are not my friends...
    Aloha!

Few of this day (July 12 2011) photos:

Before rigging - in the bacground you can see hangar where she is stationed:

    Just after arrival:

Any new proposals? Probably not, but rather to confirm in previous observations:
Beth is a boat requiring permanent attention from skipper - even in low wind, when we put the full sails, you have to have ears and eyes open and be ready to jump. This is not a boat, where you can relax - you have to be ready all the time, because a temporary increase in speed, or weakening of the wind requires an immediate response. No response could mean capsize even Force 2. Such behavior of the boat so it was quite a tiring day, because the wind shook and changed its strength from moment to moment. Constant attention and appropriate responses of skipper, are immediately rewarded - the boat immediately and dramatically speeds up, and all-around, with the exception of modern racing boats, is far behind of her!
    Aloha!

This day (July 16th 2011) photos and few words:

First I've reefed mainsail and sailed to the Nieporęt on southern coast of lake.

...then sailed on in a northeasterly direction. There was an appointment with Janusz, who rigged his proa PJOA:

(the inscription reads: 'Only for surfers' )

At that time Łukasz lj78 came to us:

And after placing PJOA decided to sail out on the water - first me, annoying again for not pivoting blade of rudder - as in the first instance, if will not change, it breaks down:

In the meantime the wind weakened to force 1-2, so I should be like unreef, but ... I thought that it can reach the place faster than I was playing with these strings: lol:

In a moment of PJOA, Janusz with Lukasz and another colleague. Lukasz from sailing PJOA did me some very nice photos on the widest part of the lake called "pan":

Soon I was back in Zegrze:

I was right - BETH "YuanFen" with one reef on the mainsail has still a lot of sail and is very lightweight. And so sailed faster than most boats met!

Probably tomorrow will be my another training on the Zegrzyński Reservoir.
    Aloha!

Very nice! Looks like you have plenty of other sailors nearby to show off your beautiful BETH to.

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend!

    Dave,
Yes - there is a lot of sailors - on weekends there is even a dispute crowd
Many of them are really like BETH - its classic look and speed. She is something unusual there.

Unfortunately - I have to give up today's sailing.

Few photos from yesterday's sailing - sorry for stop photos only, but there was not my friends with cameras...

Wind was blowing at Force 4 that mainsail reefed on second reef and lately mizzen reffed also for better balance - double reefed mainsail and full mizzen will turn the boat towards the wind in gusts too much.

I have borrowed GPS from a friend.I wanted to measure the speed of the boat, but I could not set up the device and it showed me 0.0000 knots

There are no photos from last Sunday - there was no friend close with the camera, and I'm was bored shooting at a standstill, and for shooting from the cockpit came a bit too much of wind, because sometimes I had to jump for the ballast.

Beautiful sunny weather was and wind as much as you need to on this boat have "a little" of fun.

It should be some correction - perhaps once wrote that without reef withstand the wind Force 3, but I think in the a bit longer daysailing should be different:
Yesterday (as an indicator of wind on the roof of SWOS Marina) blew full light air (F 1), and was full light breeze (F 2) in gusts. During the F 2, being of full sails, I sit on the side deck and hiking, and when F 3 blows, then I have to really hang on ballast sharply/hardly. In this way I could withstand longer daysailing 20 years ago, but now the strength of the momentary gusts of F 3 I'm probably able hiking, and in the long run ... Should I reduce of sail area.

Ability to maintain the boat on the course is dependent on the skills, strength and condition of the skipper, but also on his weight. I am rather lightweight (75 kg = ca 165 lbs) and heavier (ca 85 kg = ca 187 lbs) skipper could do more on wind.

    Aloha!

From this Sunday Aug 28 2011 I have 3 photos from my cellphone:

    Before departure

Rest at Southwestern coast of Zegrze Reservoir

Rest near SWOS Marina (title of picture is "Big and small" )

This is an end of shool holidays - September will be probably colder than last 3 months, but hoping for few of sailing weekends else...

    Hi All!

I just received three photos taken Aug 15 2011 by a friend Rudek Wasilewski:

Photos taken from SWOS (MOS) Marina in Zegrze Południowe. In this picture you can see WTW (Warszawskie Towarzystwo Wioślarskie - Warsaw Rowing Association the oldest Polish sport club/association founded in 1878 under Russian domination) Marina in background.

Rob, it is so nice to see how much use you are getting from your BETH! I can only wish my future GIS will be so busy. Is it my imagination or does your mizzen seem more full than your mainsail? I'm waiting for the pictures of you hiked out like a board trying to keep her flat. Will your winds get stronger in autumn?

    Enjoy!
