    Default Branding.

I've already disscused with Michael about branding a design into the decks of the Eureka. The thoughts were that the burnt wood might smear when the design was covered with epoxy. I did this small test panel and it came out fine. The iron, used carefully only burns into the surface of the ply. I'd bought a branding iron which in reality is a soldering iron with multiple attachments so I could use the "hot knife" to cut the material for my seats. The rest is a bonus. We'll just have to see what comes out.
    This the test piece.

Great idea, especially for homemade boats.

Scorched wood is a time honored method, to mark and decorate wooden boats. Epoxy will do nothing more then protect it.

Once the wood is burnt , the technique is called PYROGRAPHY, and I will attach a pic of what I am doing for a friend.

We use special machines with heat controls , with a hand piece with changeable wire tips, .

Very nice Jeff. You're way ahead of me. I'm just looking at doing a simple aboriginal style design on one of the decks.

That's a great name for a boat "Bin im Garten" ! (" I am in the garden")

Reminds me of the name of a sailing yacht I once saw in France: " Il est en réunion" ("He's in a meeting")

The name of the canoe was always going to be flatdog (chosen by my wife) and I was going to do something with an Aboriginal theme. I love Aboriginal art. This is what came out for the bow deck.

Thanks Robert. Time to sand back your decks and start branding.

I guess I should explain that "flatdog" is the name used by some in Northern Australia for a crocodile.

    Cheers, Kev.

Not for this boat - my BETH will have (on her sides) cut from the film copies of Chinese Calligraphy (made by a MIK's friend - thank you MIK ) "Yuan Fen" - as soon as posible...

    Default For Michael.

    Here ya go Michael.

I also had this planned but didn't know how to go about it. The first layout I did looked like it had been done with a rubber stamp so I ended up doing it all freehand. I think it'll look different when the wood darkens with the epoxy.

You said you liked a bit of free advertising. Did I say free ? Silly me.
