Classic sprit rig on Duck
I've been reading old posts comparing the lug to the leg'o mutton sprit.sails.Has anyone tried using a quadrilateral sprit sail? with or without boom?

Howdy,
There are a couple of problems to be overcome with the Quadrilateral sprit.
They are covered by my article here to some extent
Tuning and setting up lug and sprit sails and rigs for performance - Michael Storer Wooden Boat Plans
Boomless has some drawbacks - and will only work with longer boats than the Duck/OzRacer unless going for a very small sail with the centreboard moved much further forward.
With a boom it is a not too bad a rig, but a bit clumsy to raise and lower and reef compared to the balance lug and no control over twist as the sail is eased unlike the balance lug and triangular sprit boom sails.
The sprit boomed triangular sail has some of these deficits too - as it is not easy to make raise or lower - instead we go for a rig that depowers well so can sail fine in most sensible breezes - and a number of not so sensible ones as well.
Best wishes
Michael

I do point to the advantages of the rig for cheap and small rigs that have good sail area for their length.
The Good thing about PDRs is that you can change things very cheaply - a sprit mast would also be suitable as a lug mast - but as always you have to be careful about where the centre of the sail is relative to the centreboard.
If you use the OzRacer standard mast you could work out a quadrilateral sprit to go on it. But you wouldn't be able to go boomless.

I agree, with loose footed sprit being un suitable..My idea was to determine CofE of quad sail and play with shape to put it in same place as orriginal design.Like you say tho.at least it wont cost the earth experimenting.
