Many thanks for putting the vid together. You are way too talented. And to everyone else for the positive comments. We had a great day at Midge's place and really appreciated the hospitality. The canoe was absolutley the most fun to build and taking it out the first time was simply fantastic. Now we have to start using it. Haven't launched it since so have to sort that out soon.

The Eureka is such a light and stable canoe compared to the glass ones we have used in the past. It is so responsive and glides through the water so easily. Couldn't believe the speed we could get up to and the lack of effort required. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of going down the self construction road.

Again thanks everyone for your advice over the past few months. Now for the next project? Which will be.........a......um.......?

I envy you down there for having summer now. We still have winter here in Slovenia so it's a bit tricky for canoeing right now.
I hope we'll have some warmer days soon so I can try out my newly built Eureka.

Is he the one working with you in the first pictures? Is he the one with glasses or is that you?

I've got to agree its a great looking canoe. I love the natural timber look - can't understand why people paint such things which looks so nice, especially when the sun in no where near as harsh in Europe as it is in Oz.

In the pics, I'd love to say I'm the kid sitting in the finished canoe .. but I'm not. Koala is the joker in the grey overalls and I'm wearing the glasses.

As for me building a boat, after morning tea I'm off to buy some wood so that I can build some paddles! I know I'll be able to take these back to Europe with me in a few months. Considering Koala had finished both paddles after 6 hours work, I am sure I'll start itching for something bigger soon enough.

Koala .. now that you have finished the canoe, can I ask Mik about that confusing line early on in the plans which says something about not rubbing out the bulkhead markings (which hadn't been mentioned anywhere in the plans to that point)??

Hi Theodor, That reference has gone. There was one on the first page for a month or so a couple of years ago that told people to measure them out carefully.

In the end I decided that there was a bit of a chance that the sides of the boat might not quite match after assembly so got rid of the lines for the bulkheads and used the measurement instead. At least the bulkhead will be optically correct!

Of course I could not wait for spring. As soon as the temperature was above 10 degres I was out and in the water. Well canue was in the water and I was safely in it.

No leaks, no problems only had to get used to balance myself and the boat.

I'm looking forward to having Theodore here so we can enjoy the boating together.

Gratz Koala! The boat looks great even if the weather looks like it is below 0 deg C!

My paddles are half done (wishing for a few hours to work on them!) so I'll be ready to join you the minute I step off the plane in June!
