I think you need two images. One scientific and one in flight. Perhaps one on the transom and one at the bow. Either way, it's bad ass. Nobody messes with a pterosaur.

...well, not any more.
hahaha - riposte of the week BobWes!!!
Ok,
So it's on like Donkey Kong. I finally got some nice weather that was warmer than 50 deg. and it was sunny, and not blowing 50 kts, so I pulled the boat out of the garage and set to working on my Payson joint repair to get rid of the unsightly buckled joints I had along my sides.
I faired them smooth, and then carefully chiseled out a trough for the glass and epoxy to lay in.
So far, I think I am golden. Don't know for sure, but I think I am coming close to nailing the repair. Here's my question, Mik... if I've laid down the glass and then thickened epoxy, but perhaps not enough was applied-- I won't really know until the original application has hardened and I have faired it. This sounds simple, but I was just planning on adding more if need be post-fairing and then fairing again. Does that sound right? Any problems with just adding more if I need to build it up a little?
Howdy ...
Just need to give a light sand to get rid of the shine before refilling.
After your initial fairing you will be able to see lots of areas that are OK - nice and flat. Keep any refilling from overlapping onto them as much as possible.

Thanks Mik!
I ended up putting on a second coat of epoxy, I had to apply it over the whole patch, but then a layer of Quick Fair over the whole thing, and I sanded it back down to the epoxy, so the Quick Fair filled the valleys. So everything right now is super super smooth.
The "buckledness" is gone for the most part, but a bit remains. However, it is much much less than before, much more subtle now, and I'm happy with it. Painting begins tomorrow.
This project was interesting, there was a fine line between doing too much and not doing enough... very difficult to walk in between that. I think I got a good balance.
Also, it's very difficult to tell what I have without the glossiness of the paint. Lots of feeling but no visual confirmation.
Remember too the problem with "boatbuilder eye".
You will be looking from a foot away with the boat upside down! And you know where to look!

:D
Heh... sailing legend AND a published author! Pretty darned impressive. :D
Good job!
Christophe. Great piece, thanks!
Dude, you said primordial soupmates! I believe the entire sailing trip was concocted and perpetrated just as an excuse to use that phrase in a sentence!
Congrats on the publicity :2tsup:
There is a lot of really nice writing in that article!

I was just about to ask how I Am Zinea, Pterodactylus is doing when I noticed a new blog entry. IAZP is wet again! Huzzah!
YO
I figured out the creases/wrinkles along the head. Bruce and all, thanks for your advice. I tightened the outhaul along the yard really tight and I ditched the venetian cord for plastic tie-wraps, and I have a nice head with no wrinkles. I even have a *small* crease that runs parallel the yard. So I'm pretty stoked, the sail is looking a lot nicer now than it has all last year. I set up a multiple purchase at the peak and cranked down on it and it worked nice.
I still think a stiffer yard would help, I'm kind of maxing it out now.
Thanks for the advice guys!

So secondly, now when I'm on a port tack, (sail resting on mast) I'm getting the dreaded wrinkle/crease that runs from the clew to the throat when I'm going upwind and cranking hard on the mainsheet. One up on the rail, me hiking out. What adjustment will abolish this one?
This could be an overbend crease due to the flexi yard. Try loosening the yard tension at the peak and inch or so.
What is your downhaul tension like?
I wouldn't worry too much though. Normally Cunningham adjustments help for these, but we don't have one. More downhaul may help a bit.
