I went to a presentation to the Scow Class last night at the Royal Lymington, given by George Trevelyan about the 2010 Raid and launching the 2011 Raid. Very good with lots of lovely pictures.

When one realises that a key requirement was the need to cater for 100 people at each yacht club each evening, I began to realise why it seemed to be more a Raid from one very posh yacht Club to the next! There are very few camp site in the Solent, so camping on the yacht club lawns became the norm. All very different to the Texas 200!

I feel the 2011 course will suit the 20' boats. If bad weather came through, as it often does here, the sail back from Itchenor to Hamble could be very rough and exposed. I did ask George if the Scows were being discouraged, but not at all, he felt they would be fine, whilst the Scow sailors muttered quietly about it being too far!

Some will still go, but fewer I fear. They spend all summer sailing all over the Solent anyway.

The PDRs thought that the 40 mile daily averages of the Texas 200 were "too much" as well.

Until John, Jason and Andrew did it anyway.

And they agreed it was too much - but PDRs have been a part of the event since anyhow.

It means about 14 hours on the water each day. The scows will be about 50% faster on average.
