I didn't get to it last summer, but BottlePort is on my list of goodies to add to my Sunfish. Not sure yet if I want to put inspection port(s) my future GIS's top/horizontal surfaces. The bottle port works well in either orientation anyway.
As noted in the video, they are also compatible with Fat Bags, so your port can also carry a few valuables behind your beverage.Dave

fixed
I finally got around to repairing this. As I did not have the original paint, or know the brand, I repainted the the whole hull while I was at it. I removed the vinyl waterline tape and sanded the old paint off to the wood along the seam. What I found was that the hull was not coated on the outside with epoxy as Mik suggests, just paint over the plywood. The seam appeared to be full of epoxy from the joining of the buttstrap, so I saturated the wood for two inches on both sides with epoxy, then added a few thicker coats for good measure. There was no apparent water damage to the plywood that I needed to fix, so happy there.
The hull is now blue, and I am happier knowing that this was not a major structural defect, and that the hull is nice and tight when I catch the odd wave the wrong way when beating in the ocean!

GIS repair recommendations
Interesting that there was no epoxy laid down under the paint like the designer recommeds. I take it you did not build your GIS warmbeer?
As for PFDs, my opinions are that they are akin to seatbelts in cars. They should be worn, no matter what. Conditions change, #### happens and there is no time to put it on while coping with a situation. Every week we read about deaths where a PFD was not worn. I can't understand the logic of not wearing them.If you buy the right one, and you wear it constantly, you won't even be aware you are wearing it.
To me it's a no brainer.

I started this thread awhile ago, so I had to go back and re-read the PFD part. Yeah, I wear one all the time now ... except sometimes if I get hot after the wind dies and I'm back in the harbor. I'm usually rowing then anyway.
