Carbon Mast
Yes, have a quote from C-Tech provide cutting edge technology in carbon mast manufacturing. C-Tech manufacture Carbon fibre spars and tubular composites for the marine industry. for a carbon mast.
4730mm long, 76mm ID tapering to 45mm ID. Wall of 2.0mm for the bottom metre or so, 1.5mm wall thereafter. Standard modulus carbon of about 95GPa. Stiffness matches/exceeds the square box mast at the bottom, I'm pretty sure it is over spec'd throughout but haven't run the calculations at all the stations on Mik's plans yet. I'm guessing weight about 2.5kg. NZ$850.00
I'm pretty sure they can freight worldwide, not sure of freight cost but weight is low. I'm looking at a carbon yard too, but will wait till the Netherlands GIS Racing Association have done some two boat testing and we have a better idea of the ideal yard stiffness.

The yard is not hugely heavy so only a bit of weight to be saved there. The big chunk is in the mast.
Not so bad with the birdsmouth or other hollow constructions, but that is the potential for the biggest benefit.
