Default Handy Punt with 5HP or less

Thinking about the Handy Punt and wondering how it would perform with a 5HP as this would keep it outside of the need for registration. Has anyone tried it with a motor this size. It would be just me and the missus and maybe an esky and all the fish we catch

Would the HP be suitable for Pittwater

Has anyone rigged a weather cover like the fishing tinnies you can hire around the place?

Haven't owned a boat before and I am running through another one of my "thought fantasies" - lets maybe build a boat and renew the childhood joy of fishing and being on the water....

The GIS looks cool, but the cost of the sail is off putting - and, adding a motor probably puts it out of the picture. Oh, and it looks way harder to construct.

    Howdy,

My agents in Australia are Duck Flat.

David Wilson there is a great guy and talks straight down the line. Speak to him as he owned one for at least a couple of years.

He started out with a 5 or 6 and then got more later.

Pittwater can get very choppy - very in a southerly.

Choppy in a North Easter Too, though it tends to be smoother on the Eastern side in those conditions.

So call them and ask David about it and how the boat handled chop with the lower horsepower, how he found the general use of the boat and his power recommendations

    Best wishes
