I've started a larger model, hopefully big enough to incorporate modeling of the room layout. All I have so far is the shell with the entrance corner cut away and ink outlines of some of the windows.

The best boat interior layouts don't double up too much on functions. The problem with that approach is you might suddenly need to use the navigation table when others are using to make lunch. I think the better interiors minimise the space taken up by each function and keep them as separate as possible.
The older designers and Phil Bolger were all quite marvellous at that. The production boat builders have many of the same floors as poorly designed houses - TOO MUCH function compared to what is really needed.
An example is that some friends of mine use a BBQ on a near enclosed verandah for almost all their cooking - so why does their house need a kitchen at all. Of course it needs one to make it valuable for someone who might buy it later.
Best wishes

Re-sale-ability drives many of the decisions we make. In my cube design I want adequate and comfortable living space on the ground floor. I don't need an office and bedroom (or two bedrooms) on the second floor. But when it comes time to sell I know this: a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house will sell much quicker than any other permutation.

It is lovely but replaces material cost with labour cost. I also think of all the bamboo furniture I have owned in the past slowly unwinding itself apart. Would i feel like the middle little pig?
The biting midge went to Mongolia a few years ago - the land of yurts. They are beautiful, elegant spaces inside. The tribe or group will own a Ute and use it to ferry each yurt broken into components to the summer or winter grazing grounds. I could always hire a ute or a car trailer behind a friends' car.

So, little boxes have evolved from Little Boxes to cubes? And those who once decried Little Boxes as symbols of mindless conformity would now advocate minimalist cubes...

" Little Boxes" by Pete Seeger was my favourite song as child. At the time I was living in "back to back" house, now regarded as a slum only I didn't know that at the time. Too busy playing football and fishing.
