    Yap ... agree Richard.

However, in a production framework I will still use a roller to get most of the pox out and then tidy it up with the brush to get all the little bits I missed. Saves a lot of time not have to dip the brush all the time.

But it is hot ain't it!

    Hi Richard, MIK and co.,
This is all very interesting - from pot to sanding in a bit over an hour - wow! Bit hot there, even for Adelaide at this time of year. That sort of heat wave used to be mid-Jan and later (at least that's my memory of them). It's quite novel (for me) reading about people using slow hardener...I've got the opposite case.

Useful tip about the brush length MIK - I'll get the scissors to mine right away!

Hope the weather cools down for you soon, Richard and everyone else over there!

    Cheers,
    Alex.

I've given the middle seat cavity a coat of paint ... well, two coats of paint. It's only being painted to make it easier to find things in there, probably not really needed but it's the only chance I'll get to do it and when you have a healthy clumsy gene like I do ...

I thought I'd just buy one of those cheap, 100ml cans of paint and splot it on with one of those cheap brushes I got from Mike. It was a disaster. The paint was thickening up as I used it thanks to the heat (at least the brush wasn't sticking to the job, I had that painting a house once). The brush was too narrow for the area being done. I was really in no mood to be painting and so probably exercised a less than ideal technique. The result was pretty predicable and looked like a crazed man's attmept at pin striping. Although it's not an area that needs a decent paint job (only a small part will ever be seen and anyone who criticises your paint job inside a storage tank can be safely ignored), I wasn't happy to leave it so today I gave it a quick sand, bought another can of paint, thinned it a bit (with water, it being an acrylic) and got in there with one of those cheap, nasty, thick foam rollers. The result is white, even (sort of) and more what you'd expect to see inside a storage tank ... apart from the areas where the sweat was flooding off the paint (I'm not flamin' kidding either and no, it doesn't touch up properly ).

Now I'm inside, in front of a very inefficient air conditioner and, because I've got my daughter with me, watching BRATZ girls on DVD
    NO BEER!
    Geez life's tough sometimes.

...the ONLY thing that matters is how the brute works, anything else is window dressing.
so... will the paint in that storage area work? More importantly, will the storage are work? Yeah? Anything else is window dressing.

Shame about no beer... You know, you could make it a life lesson for your daughter - teach her responsibility for completing tasks and respect for her elders - if you'd just let her run beers from the fridge for you... ( just kidding, I have no idea of the underlying reasons for why you do what you do - and that is entirely up to you, no disrespect intended.)

I also went on to talk about our own personal perversions
It's not fine paint job I can assure, quite suitable to be hidden inside a sealed tank
Will the paint in there work? I'll tell you the first time I lose something small in there, so be prepared for a long silence.

    The beer?
Just don't have any and a few coldies would have been nice this afternoon. Of course, I could have got into the car, driven to the bottle shop and bought some, but it was easier to make mug of coffee and pretend it was as nice as a beer (such self delusion is a useful skill for boat building).

    The viewing choice?
You mean you don't let your 8 year old daughter watch what she wants?
It's okay, I managed to get the DVD changed to Asterix

Glad you reminded us Bob and Richard please refrain from talking about personal perversions please. Fixations yes, even compulsive disorders are OK but anything else no.

Daddles it will be a great day to glue tomorrow the pox should flow and set really well at 40 deg.

If I didn't have the lass with me, I'd be doing the seats because I need to keep this boat moving, however, I'll be taking her out somewhere to do something little girlie (probably an expensive, airconditioned playground, they're predicting 40 ).

I might have a go during the week, but do one seat at a time, starting with the middle seat. The plan would be a couple of heavy sealing coats on the seat top and glue it in place with the last one ... hmm, I could use this fast hardener to my advantage here by shortening the time between coats and, being a big, flat area, I can mix, dump and spread avoiding any chance of 'hot pot syndrome', then use the slow hardener for the glue and fillets. It might just work.

We need to learn how to build in this heat ... or wait until march or april before finishing the boats. I sweat freely anyway but I couldn't believe the size of the sweat dollops falling off me today. I've built right through summer before but it's never been so severe so early in the season and it's so dry, it's particularly baking. Man, what's february going to be like?

In parts of this country the residents will gladly swap with you - we haven't had reasonable rains in nearly 10 years and much is dead due to watering restrictions, etc.

Even my kikuyu lawn is dying. Trees dropping dead left right and centre - there aren't many Silver Birch left alive in my area and lots of natives are dropping out too. I've been in this place for five years now and we've only had two decent wet spells, both of which were short and without real follow up. No point in it raining now though, we'd only get steam. I saw a crow yesterday who'd swapped his feathers for board shorts.

Summer?? Man it is only SPRING and we are on our 6th day of over 35deg!

I'll swap for rain anytime, bring it on! Last rain we had was on Oct 29 and 30, total of 12mm, big deal!

    .

We had our first official Nov heat wave ever recorded this week. A heat wave is defined as 5 consecutive days over 35 - hah! It's been in the high thirties (most days around 38,39) for over a week now. Dunno what's going on with the weather but it's going to be a long summer. The dry winds have crisped off the grass and undergrowth from that wet spell a month or so ago so we're in for one hell of a fire season.

At least there's some water in the Murray (thanks to them damming off bits of the lower lakes) so I won't have to fit wheels to the Little Black Dog.

    This from today's newspaper:

AFTER some brief relief tomorrow, Adelaide's November heatwave is set to strike back in full force midweek. The weather bureau is now forecasting maximum temperatures of 41C this Wednesday and Thursday.
A cool change is still forecast to drop temperatures this evening and a mild maximum of 28C is tipped for tomorrow.
But the mercury will begin its climb on Tuesday with a forecast top of 34C before we swelter through two 41C highs on Wednesday and Thursday.
    Awww fook

Sorry to be obsessive about the weather. At least I get to start early at work when it's this hot.

They were promising us 40 for today (sunday). Only 32 last I looked.

It might appear later in the week, but It might not appear at all.

According to the Kent Town Daily Weather Summary (a useful resource actually), it hit 39.4 at 13:43

I was down at Glenelg and the temp dipped soon after that as the cloud cover made its present felt but the temp soon went up again and at 5 o'clock, it was back up to 38.2

On a more pleasant note, I went to Home Hardware to buy some water pipe for Jan (so she could use the grey water from her washing maching on the lawn) ... and came home with a brand new, Karcher vacuum cleaner for the shed I only got the 12L capacity model because I run it through my Triton Dust Bucket. I can now sand happily again
