Howdy Clint,
Agree with your first sentence of course!
Look forward to choppy water reports
I had the devil's job getting the sheer right on this one because of that flare.
It is OK as it is and builders can play with it a bit as Clint has to get it right to their eyes. Clamp the gunwale in place and slide it up and down while walking around the boat from a few metres away. The movements will be subtle - not big at all.
Daddles and other builders can move the sheer DOWN 6mm in the middle and get a nice line as above, but I will look at the plans too. Fantastic usable feedback Clint. Actually I am super impressed with almost every scrap of feedback I get from this forum. An unusually knowledgeable bunch.
I was really worried about the rigidity of the gunwale on this one, so glad it might work without spacers.
So Clint, if you can give me any tweaks to the sheer while it is still in your head, I will try and work it into the drawings.
Hey ... I know you have a house full of kids, but some paragraphs would be nice!!!! You know I mean that nicely!
The boat does look great.

Here is a WBF link by a great volunteer of ours who also maintains some threads about kids' work.

Note the fox orange boat, something called the MSD Rowboat. Ever hear of it? By the way, this boat is getting a lot of attention. I really hope to get a commission for the kids to build one next fall. That program is pretty much a go! The MSD owner is letting us sell his boat to fund the next one...we'll have it at our annual boatbuilding festival starting Sunday. Gotta go....
Here is a link about the festival.

Good news, the program for 2009-10 is a go. Funding has come in and we will be most likely building the MSD rowboat, again, with a pair or two of composite blade oars.
This will give me a chance to work out kinks in the boat (the stem bevels as noted in the sticky thread, and also the sheer and sweetening that up a touch, as well as other details).
Cheers,
Clint

Nah, don't spoil their fun.
At TAFE, previous courses had built the prototype Yellowtail and 6m Motor Cruiser. As mistakes were found in the plans, they were sent through to the designer so he could correct his plans, but the later courses still used the original plans - finding the mistakes was part of our training ... which was fun with the Motor Cruiser because we lofted that from tables of coordinates and while it was immediately obvious that something was screwy, it it wasn't obvious what it was. Good training

Good training when Da Moose is there to help sort it out ... not so nice when it is a bloke or blokette building alone in a garage at night )
But like you say ... good practice in a controlled environment.
