MSD Rowing Skiff stowage
Clint, this is paricularly directed at you and your boys seeing your'e the only ones who've seen one of these brutes in real life.
The skiff has three compartments - fore, aft and middle. Yes Mik, I know they're supposed to keep the boat afloat when I do something stupid and fill it with water, but they're also a great place to put stuff that you don't want to get wet or to lose during the process of doing something stupid and getting the boat filled with water (camera, wallet, bottle of rum, etc).
The compartments aren't overly high, which suggests ports on the top rather than the sides though to be honest, I haven't looked closely at the practicalities of fitting round ports in the bulkheads (one of my tasks when I head out into the shed).
I'm also thinking that the middle seat is the one to use for stowage as that's not going to affect the balance of the boat ... except that if I were carrying heavy stuff such as fishing gear, bucket full of water and fish, lunch box, etc, they'd be on the floor between the middle seat and the bow anyway.
You'll have your fat rump taking up a decent chunk of that middle seat so hatches would need to be to one side. I'll also be setting up this boat to push row as well as pulling so I'll need to be able to sit facing forward as well.
Any thoughts gents?
Specifically:
- where to place inspection ports in the fore and aft tanks (the round, spin in sort).
- what to do with the middle seat
I'll need to head off to a chandlers to see what sorts of hatches are available locally, but I'm thinking about a compartment to one side of the seat with a rectangular hatch. Yes, I could make the hatch out of ply but that'd be hard work.

I think you have a pretty good idea already. The buoyancy tanks at the front and back are the best for really light gear .. or nothing at all.
The mid seat could have hatches either side in the top.
I always like to paint it white or a very light grey (white paint with a tiny bit of black) inside tanks with gloss paint to make it easy to find things and keep it clean.
You might just get one of the 100mm diameter screw in ports into the fronts of the bulkheads. Maybe.
If you go that way - the one in the front bulkhead could be central and the one in the rear should be offcentre so you can reach the corner to sponge out any last bits of water should any get in there.
If you don't need access to the front and back tank you could just put a bung down in one of the corners of each.

Daddles, Yep, use the mid seat for stowage. We put 4" screw in ports in the fore aft tanks. I would definitely put the hatches in the top of the seat. Remember that there is a central stiffener running down the middle seat so put hatch in off center. Agree with MIK to do inside of tank a light gray. The hatch in middle seat would also be good to help keep the inside dry. I like to pop out hatches between rows so that any moisture inside can escape.
We are painting the MSD. I'll try to remember to take and post a picture.
