So when is the goose version coming out?
Or are we all expected to learn how to multiply by 1.5?

If you find trouble ... there's usually a ukelele player at the bottom of it.

Did everyone see Perttu's article about three days cruising his ocean explorer in Finland?

    It was published on Duckworks

Article on cruising the Ocean Explorer microcruising sailboat.

I love this nano cruiser Perttu. Are you going to manufacture pre-cut flat pack versions for not so tallented people like myself? This will go perfect with my Citroen 2cv, I go camping and the ocean explorer could double up as a small caravan.

    Citroen....

    My father has 2cv6
I had Cx - its not car - its ship on the roat
    now I have Xantia.....

-Precut version - Its quite hard to post.
Building simple boat its not very hard. I made 2 years my Ozracer. First all parts which can be done separetaly and finaly assembled the hull. With extra time you have extra time for harder bits.
    - I was poor in woodworking classes in school.

Hi Perttu, sharing DXF files, ie computer data files of the drawings, might work for this design. They can easily be shipped around the world, so that local CNC machine shops can then be used to cut a kit.

I do like the idea of Ocean Explorer as micro caravan and micro yacht!

MIK, would my mainsail/mast/boom be ok for OE? I cannot remember what the lug sail area is for OE.

    Hi

OE uses the same lug rig that Ozracer. I have build only one sets of spars and foils and use them with both boats. Ozracerīs sprit rig would not fit to OE - dimension from mast base to sails bottom edge is too short.

Yep - the dxf files could be send by email.

A 2cv is a multi purpose vehicle, why use it to row?The roof can be used as a sail.

You would have to move the mast back Brian to suite the RAID41 rig.

However, we have a cunning plan ... The eventual 12ft version (Goose version) of the OE will use the RAID41 rig as a ketch. The mizzen might be a different size but everything else will be the same except the addition of mizzen partner and step next to the transom.

No promises about when it is ready though!

I 've started using my phone to sometimes post and send emails. It doesn't know as many nautical words as I do (yet)

Perttu, I am wondering if the methods of producing small ply dinghies, using DXF files to cut kits which are then very quick to build, and more importantly, good to build knowing that the outcome will be a good boat, well built, can be transferred to building a micro home.

There is growing interest in the concept of micro homes on the internet but none use the methods developed in small ply boat building. Also in the UK there is a growing market for an overflow room /study in the garden. Perhaps a modernist cabin in Finland?

In the US they seem to have a concept of "cabins" to locate in wild country, sort of harking back to the early days. Small cabin searches bring up lots of results, but non are modernist designs, nor CNC cut kits.

Because your OE is so appealing, I have to wonder what you might draw if you used those same skills to draw a micro home. The nearest current design I can find is the Minibox from Austria. Just 8'3" cubed, it can sleep 3 in a single and a double. Lots of very clever ideas as well.

Planning in the UK allows small buildings in the garden without planning consent. I reckon if I built one and placed it at the bottom of my garden, cut an access through the fence onto the cliff top, it would be very popular as a super interesting rent for the eco interested people, and more importantly, all the kite surfers who fly around all day when it's windy would love it as an inexpensive overnight stay.

Here's an example of the Minibox.

    Thanks Brian

Cabin like that needs some knowledge for right construction. Climat like in Uk- there will be great temperature differences and moisture issues while warming the cabin. So the basic log houses consturction where moisture can travel thru walls would be good, but thatīs not what you are after.

Would need lots of time and knowhow I think? or it will be in mildew quicky

Sounds like a great idea. The micro OE is such a cool bit of design.
