    Post OzRacer sailing speeds

    Hi All,

I took my GPS out with me sailing last week. Attached is a plot of my speed - As you can see, the boat is pretty consistently hitting hull speed (3.7 kts)

This was in about 8 kts of breeze at Humpybong last weekend. There was about 0.3-0.5m of chop. I'm using a the tarp sprit rig at the moment.

Interested if anyone else out there has some speed logs for comparison.

    D.

That is super interesting...can you pull any other meaningful data out of your system?

What other data might be useful?

With some analysis of the track data, I might be able to work out a rough pointing angle on each tack.. maybe.. I'll grab a plot of the tracks when I'm back in front of my other computer on Monday.

Most GPS systems can produce data that can be interpreted by TackTracker. Download a copy here. The Complete Yacht Race Player and Analyser

It would be really great to look at tack angles etc.

    Cool!

If the data does give effective pointing angles it might be able to track your improvement too.
