I think the framing on the bottom should finish 19mm in from each side so it can fit between the framing on the bottom panels.

You have to notch it out to fit over the chines.

    Hi

Actually I think I have to take out the whole 19mm corners on the bottom framing including the ply?

Thanks mate I posted before I read your post. I have cut the corners out now, does it matter what side of the register line I screw it to?

    Hi

My previous question was a bit dumb, obviously the framing goes to the inside and you line the ply up with the line dah! It is all glued together now and 3D, complete with my dodgy butt strap patch up. I think it is called a butt strap because it is butt ugly...mmm maybe that can be the name of the boat. Here is a couple of photos to prove it. I am a bit dirty that I made the stuff up because it has put me behind a day, I should have had the floor on and probably the centre case and frames in by now. Probably won't get to do too much tomorrow as I am taking the Eureka out fishing. Last time I went to Bribie Island in it we were followed by some really big Garfish and Whiting, I could have scooped them with a net I reckon, hope I don't fall out again.

    Hi

I completed the must step this arvo and glued it in along with the bottom panel. The mast step was a bit fiddly but I think I got it exactly where I wanted it, I didn't pay any attention to cleaning it up thoroughly because I won't see it anyway.

I'll turn it over tomorrow night and start on the inside. The centrecase and it's supports are already made so it is only a matter of gluing them in I think. I have almost run out of filler so I hope it gets delivered tomorrow.

Question - for those that have built one, the measurement for the length of the mast step runners is 415. I had to trim the length of mine to get it exact and not bow the bulk head out. Mine now measure 405, so I remarked everything before I glued the bits together so the mast gusset is still 100mm from the front and the hole for the bolt is still 134mm, and ply cheeks 95mm, was this the right thing to do? Too late now I guess.

That's exactly the right method Col.

Providing all the measures are taken from the front of the boat then everything works out about right.

    Well done

Bugger all done after work yesterday, I trimmed all the framing down and followed MIK's instruction to plane from the ends to the center because he knocked the corner of the ply out on a side panel. I should have watched the back of the plane because I got a bit vigorous with it and smashed it into the side panel, cracking it. SPent most of the time fixing that. I will have another go tonight and getting it all together.

    Hey all

Last night I glued in the framing and the centre case, it took me a while to get it dead centre. Tonight I glued the carlins on to the decking, they were a real nightmare to bend around, worse than the chines. I also shaped and cut the side tank faces so I can fillet them in tomorrow night.

It's been a week since I started and with only using my time after work and 1 weekend I am happy with the progress so far. I think the hull is the most time consuming part of the build and I will only need a day or so to finish that, so it should be smooth sailing from here on in.

Not complacent just yet Mik. I filleted the inside of the side tanks tonight, might get back out to the shed and get the outside of them done if they go hard enough, unlikely though as it is quite cool here in Brisbane for the first time in a while.

Unfortunately I have had no time to do anything on the boat, just dribs and drabs because of work, hopefully I will be able to get the mast partner in tonight and then the hull will be finished apart from the deck, which I will leave off until I know the mast fits and I don't need to make any adjustments. I will put up some photos when that is finished.

I got an email from Shorty today, I am hull number #409, looking at the site there has been another 20 boats registered this year, not bad.

Just to clarify - there is no dramas using normal water based exterior house paint on the boat, it's not going to succumb to the salt water within a couple of weeks is it?

I am counting on there being no drama involved with normal water-based exterior house paint as that's what I am using on my Goat!

Again I got very little done on the boat because of work commitments. I did however manage to plane down the side tanks to the carlins and the decks to the gunwales. I also fitted the mast partner, so that only leaves the front deck and coaming to do, and of course the million holes to fill and sand etc.

    Boring photo attached.

It is important to use an undercoat or primer (we call them different things between our two countries) as the housepaint may not cure properly over epoxy in a few cases.

Should be gloss too. The less glossy finishes in the water based are often quite brittle.

    Best wishes
    Michael
