Rumors of a sailing Quick Canoe Electric
So someone dropped a hint somewhere about a sailing version of a Quick Canoe Electric. Possibly outriggers.
Intrigued I am.
My Quick Canoe is not faring so well, the SurePly is delaminating in spots and the bottom has always been very bendy, making for a concave bottom surface where the chines become rails and the boat gets kind of tippy with 2 people (with 1 it's really nice). So a potential project is always interesting.
Someone cough it up.

Sounds great. You could use the batteries to power a big fan, and sail around when there was no wind.

I made some 3' outriggers from Plywood/epoxy mated to a tube frame and mounted this to my beat to hell aluminum canoe. I made a mast out of elec conduit and use a jib sail as a main sail and a real rudder from an old sailboat with a daggerboard made from plywood. It actually works pretty damn well with one on each side and is really stable even while standing and brisk winds require no lean. I have been thinking of one day making a glouester light dory with a single outrigger on it. It just sounds like a fun project to me.

All the information to do this is in different places ... I am trying to consolidate it.
Pity about the sureply.

There is something to be said for Okoume and Meranti.
Interestingly enough, a piece of SurePly that I left outside for the past 18months (used as a door for a chicken coop) has remained completely stable.
