    Default Where to sail?

    Hiya,

Ive recently decided to begin building my very own PDRacer. Plans are in my hot little hands (mostly), materials sourced (again mostly....still lookin for expoxy supplier nearby) and build space cleared and organised, i find now is probably a good time to begin asking some of the hard questions like, where can i sail my pride and joy once finished.

Im based in SE suburbs of melbourne, near dandenong. By the look of the photos of sailing pd's the water needs to be fairly calm, so i guess port Philip Bay is out.

The family does reguarly go camping at either venus bay/inverloch or shallow inlet however. Would these areas be more suitable.

Ill also probably have to learn how to sail too i suppose but thats something ill worry about closer to completion. (Details, Details)

    thx for any suggestions

    Howdy,
The PDR shows every sign of being able to handle the conditions that just about all other boats handle. So Port Phillip is not out of the question at all.

On its roughest days ... it would not be a good idea probably ... but average good conditions when it looked like fun to be out there ... there would be no problem.

    Best wishes
    Michael

    G'day Nehpets.
There's also Lake Albert, and most Vic reservoirs permit boating.
Should be something around the northern end of Westernport as well.
I'd stay away from the strong currents at the southern ends of both Westernport & Port Phillip bays.
The Yarra is nowhere near as yukky as its reputation.
    cheers

    Thx for the suggestions guys.

In my enthusiasm its become known amongst my friends that im embarking on this boat building thing and surprisingly a couple of sailor types have popped up.

In fact one is so interested he told me not to start till he shows up saturday mornin to help. (he' bringin the beer, so i spose ill let him)

One of them actually suggested Lake Albert also, so all is good. Just need to get the boat bult now.
