Don't know what a parrel is, but I did send my kit sail to the local sailmaker to finish some of the sewing. I have a very tough dutch machine build in 1967, (yes i do live in Texas) but I just could not sew thru 9 layers of 4.93 oz cloth (44.37oz)
2nd coat of vanish went on tonight. A buddy offered his old racing go-cart racing trailer to me for free. I am using another buddies car trailer to get to the boat to the inspection place on Friday morning. I plan to go sailing this weekend and christen the boat. My company wants to send me to California for 6 months at the beginning of July.
Life is good!
Plus, we (kids & I) have had a blast building this boat and knowing it is the first GIS yawl makes it even more exciting.I am a very happy Dad, husband and typical crazy guy.
Thanks for all the forums help!

It's looking mighty fine John!
This weekend sees the launch of 2 Goats then! What a pity they are not closer together and on the same body of water. Anyhow, I think it will be the first time two new Goats hit the water for the first time on the same w/e.

What are the black studs on the fasteners of the rudderbox? They look really cool against the white tiller.

This dual launching should be done in real time on Youtube according to GMT in Greenwich. Just a thought

What we can do is post videos of our launches on youtube and somehow link them together. I'll ask my 12 year old how to do this.
Unfortunately a lot of our boat ramps and launch beaches were destroyed during hurricane Ike. The ones that are open are great for power boats, the others are on very crowded channels with strong tides. Not ideal for my first sail.

Sounds like a great idea to me! I guess the two videos could be spliced together. I have no idea how though! My son might know.

Remember to sort out the reefing. If you had a couple of bits of 4mm rope - one about a metre and one about a metre and a half then you can reef if the conditions are asking for it. The goat sails very well under reduced sail because it is fairly easily driven.

You'll also need to relead the outhaul through the new clew when you reef.

It's now looking like we will have 3 new Goats launching this w/e. If you count Bob's, it's 4!

Or the other way is to tie the reef eyelet down to the normal clew eyelet to act as the outhaul and then take a loop under the boom as well to stop the sail from lifting up off the boom - really a version of the original corner lashing in geometry - you have to have a turn or two go under the boom as well to stop the sail lifting off the boom surface.

That's a good solution Mick.
I've been thinking about the options for reefing too, because it's all very well to do this on a quiet beach while it's sitting on the trailer, but it will different when you're out on the water trying to do it with waves and wind buffeting you. Having a nice, simple and practical solution for your reefing would help a great deal out on the water.
I think I'll make a permanent eye loop (or use a stainless steel ring) through the hole at the front of the boom and use this loop/ring for both the tack and reef lashing.
I have a sheave at the aft end which allows adjustment of the loose foot, so I could make an eye in the rope or put a SS ring there too for the clew. This would then make an easy lash point for reefing the clew.
Just thoughts... I'll try it and post some pics if it's workable.
