Traditional Boats.
We went for a paddle today on the Gold Canal which is an off-shoot of the Rhine. In this area they build a traditional fishing punt with a design that's been handed down through the generations. When I first started building the Eureka I was in contact with one of the builders when I was looking for material. As you can see the designs are slightly different to Michaels and the materials a bit more "raw". The paddles are something different. I would love to own one.

I suspect they were not designed as cartoppers.

There are similar boats all over the world. The construction reminded me strongly of the French Futreaux on the Loire river
Though the futreaux are for sailing ...
Not for roofracking either ... obviously ... the full photo set for those who have not seen is here
Also Csaba in Hungary sent me photos of lighter versions ... which can also be huge like the futreaux.
MODS - The photo above is an embedded image URL from the woodwork forum after opening the images below. The images below appear as thumbnails in the edit window but revert to text links when the post is saved.

Csaba asked me to draw something up.

MODS ... the above are the uploaded files .. the below is the image opened then the URL used. YOu can't select the "retrieve file and save locally option" because the image fails to upload.
Anyway .. I drew something up and Csaba was last seen starting to build. He was going to document the plan.
