Howdy,
Prices can vary a bit. So always good to contact the maker. Probably a good time to order too - they always become very busy coming up to the start of the season. Some even offer off season discount to tempt people into ordering at this time
Mike McNamara Sails - Simply The Best
A couple of others have got McNamara sails as well.
It has also pushed duckworks into doing more sail development for the Goat as well.
The Duckflat sails are quite reliable too.
Best wishes

Carbon spars.
Its a long story Mik, ill will make a short as possible. C-Tech made the mast in a couple of days, then handed it over to DHL for delivery to me in the UK, it took a month to get here and when i unwrapped it it had been damaged in transit, the top and been crushed and the mast was useless.
C-Tech made me another mast and this has just arrived in the uk,so im hoping this one will be ok.

Fingers crossed! Actually I am a bit impressed that two Masts can be shipped to you in the intervening time!

Committed
Well I'm now committed to the build having just placed the order for all the materials. The plywood is Ocoume, with the rest being Douglas Fir and WRC. The bottom skids will be Doug Fir and I will use some aluminium rub strips on this to toughen it up a bit. The Gunwale capping will be Oak. Oak is a bit heavier than I would like but it is tough and I like the look of it. For the rig I'm going to go for the hollow square mast made from Doug Fir.
The centre seat will probably be boxed in (with a large hatch) to reduce the amount of water to bail in the event of capsize.
I'm being slightly lazy in that all the wood be being machined to size for me but with a following wind it will all be delivered for the Christmas break.
I will be keeping a record of the build here... http://georgeisted.blogspot.com/ but am sure I will be back on this forum asking questions and providing updates.
There is no time-scale for getting the Goat built as I like to do these things at my own pace, deadlines are for paid work only! The only thing I do have in the back of my mind is a Raid event in the summer of 2012 but I hope to be finished well before that.
Note to Michael - Have you thought about starting a list or register on your website recording where known Goats are, it would also be a handy way of estimating total number built.
Cheers, G
p.s. can I have sail number 666 ? or does your rule about naming a boat also extent to sail numbers?

Merry Christmas all.
Afternoon all,
last day at work before the Christmas break, there are snowmen in the garden and I have just put a couple more logs in the fire.... Perfect!
I have added a post to my website around how I was introduced to, and why I have decided to build the GIS, I thought it may be of interest...

The wife has just popped out to collect the monster-in-law from the airport, oh joy!
Happy Christmas everyone, I look forward to posting some pics of the build as soon as the materials arrive (should be the first week of Jan).

Merry Christmas to you, too, George!
Tomorrow happens to be my last day at work, too - forever! Yes, as a Christmas present to myself I managed to schedule my retirement for December 24. I am very excited about that. I feel like a 10-year old waiting for Christmas.
Looking forward to the photos and narrative as you build your GIS.

I love the smell of Cedar in the morning....
Just a quick update, I have had a big delivery of materials so there is not excuse not to get building!
I’m hoping to get started on the mast this weekend, I’m going for the hollow square mast option so it shouldn’t take too long to put together.
I’m loving the smell as I walk into the garage now, it’s a lovely aromatic mix of the freshly planed Cedar and Doug Fir, wonderful.
Full update is on the blog http://georgeisted.blogspot.com/2011/01/to-quote-mr-r-harris-can-you-tell-what.html
Cheers for now. GLast edited by Gizzle; 14th January 2011 at 10:36 PM. Reason: Trying to post image but it's not working for me.....

Hello all,
I had a bit of time this weekend and made a good start on the project. Three sides of the mast have been shaped and glued together and I have made the blank that the centreboard will be cut from.
A full update and pics are here… http://georgeisted.blogspot.com/2011/01/lots-of-wood-shavings-and-three-sided.html
Question for the team – is there any value in adding a fillet of thickened epoxy on the inside of the mast or is this just adding additional weight and strength that is not required? I would only be able to do it on one side anyway so I’m thinking not to bother.
Best wishes
