Default undocumented sizes ... Is ther a 10' PDR? Or Goose size version of the OzRacer RV?

I seem to remember reading about one once, but are there plans available for a 10' version or was it a builder's stretch of the original?

There's an 8ft OZ Racer and a 12 foot PD Goose, but I haven't heard of something halfway in between these two.

    Ian is correct.

    goose - around 12ft overall
duck - Kiwiracer, Ozracer and PDRacer about 8ft.

There have been other variations. but the ducks and geese and the PDRs as a subset of the ducks are the ones with some sort of class structure.

I did find Steve Lewis's 10' duck, he calls the "Elder Duck". It's a straight stretch.

I'm always glad when someone tries something!

But I don't think it makes a lot of sense ... it is not really long enough to get the huge boost in extra performance of the goose and it is not really short enough to be super easy to store like the duck.

Duck weight is about 70lbs built sensibly of non premium materials. Goose is about 115. Both much lighter than a Laser (130lbs) which is considered fine to roofrack.

One interesting tech detail, PAR, was the huge jump in performance of the Goose over the duck ... Duck gets to above "hullspeed" suddenly but requires a bit bit of breeze to do it and a slight drop in pressure it drops down again. Real strange bouncy feeling.

But the Goose just planes away and makes the transition with no fuss at all and happily planes on and on.

This is despite being a scale up with same rocker depth, same crew weight and same sail.

It is interesting to see the boats have very different sailing behaviour.

Buttock angles I'll suspect Mik, with the "drawn out" Goose lines, these would naturally flatten out and you'd also have a lower pressure wave, both helping imitate and sustain a plane mode trim.

I think Steve's version was just to address a hull volume need and was done before the Goose came along. I haven't contacted him yet.

    Hi Toku,

The OzRacer RV can be stretched - and the spars, mast placement and leeboard placement taken from the Goose Supplement. The foredeck setup of the RV is quite flexible for different rig setups.

    Hi Michael,
thanks a lot for your quick reply. So I need the 2 plans ( rv + pd goose), right? I'm not so sure I'm able to do the stretching by myself, since I have not built a boat jet. For a firsttimer these things sound rather more complicated than for an old hand like you. How would I go about it and keep those beautiful lines of the rv sides?
    Regards Thomas

You can just multiply any distance along the sheet by 1.5.

But I can quickly alter the RV Drawing for you if you really want to do.
