Default Is there a Venezia actually built?

Im a lifelong recreational sailor, with 2 sailboat, 1 rowboat, 2 kayak, 1 canoe, and 3 cardboard regatta boat builds under my belt.

As I age and realize that a motorboat might not be such a bad thing after all, I keep coming back for a look at the Tennessee, Mundoo, Venezia type of boat.

I currently have a sailboat that I can motor about at 5 knots, and were I to go to the trouble of a motorboat build, I have the magical figure of 10 knots floating in my head.

I know the stripped down original Tennessee will plane, and Venezia and company are strictly displacement, but has anyone built a Venezia, and can I expect an honest 10 if I need it on the 15 horse height thrust motor?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi John,

I don't think the Venezia is the right boat for this ... the tennessee at that bit longer will get up to 10 knots without changing trim too much.

These nice low speed hulls do tend to drop their stern deep and their bow goes high. I think the slightly shorter Venezia and the slightly greater curvature of the bottom will mean the bow goes too high. And the bow is wider than the Tennessee up forward so there might be significant pounding.

I do think about 7-8 knots is a sensible practical speed. Never underestimate how much ground you can cover at 6 knots straight upwind ... a sailing boat would have to be doing 12 knots to keep up with you ... almost by the time leeway and unexpected wind shifts take place.

No Venezias have been finished but it really is a lengthened version of the Dayboat/Launch and four of those have been launched. One did run at almost 8 knots with a 9.9hp high thrust with only a couple of people aboard. But increase the weight and the shorter boats will show bigger drop offs of speed compared to a longer boat.

    Hope this helps.
