    Default Wangaratta Eureka

Hi all. I had a thread in the repair forum asking for suggestions for fixing my short upper panels. Well, that's all fixed now thanks to Mik and the rest of you who helped me out. I really appreciate the help I received and I'd just like to post a pic of where I'm up to. The other day I finished the interior and now it's time to turn it over to do the bottom. Not far to go now.

    Regards, Marty.

Very neat work Marty, looks great. I particularly like the contrast provided by the seats - are they done with seat belt type webbing?

Thanks Bob, yes it's 50mm nylon webbing. I bought it on ebay, a 9 metre roll for about $40 and had some left over.

It is pretty cool looking. The webbing seats are very nice. There is also a 25mm wide webbing.

    Best wishes

Thanks Mik. I'll be paddling down the Murray before too much longer. I don't think I'll be going as far as Adelaide though. Pictures will have to do. I'll send you some when finished.

Default Launched on the Hume Weir

I finally launched my Eureka on the Hume Weir on the day that it reached 100% capacity. I'm not an experienced canoer yet but everything went very well. She slips along very nicely and we had no problems with stability. I'm looking forward now to longer trips along the Murray and in the various lakes around here in the coming Summer. A big thanks again to Mik and those who helped me out with my problems. All the best. Marty.

Good Timing Marty, There is water in the river and spring is here.

One of those wasn't quite certain when you started!

I've actually paddled BETH, the sailing canoe, not too far from you on the Murray. Some time ago though.

    Well done!

I like it, Marty. Your Eureka is pretty much what I want mine to look like. I'm planning on doing a stripped deck as well. Was it a ton of trouble? I'm hoping it will only add a few more hours of labor to the build.

Hi Peteloaf, thanks mate. I pretty much made the deck up as I went, couldn't find any pics of anything similar. It wasn't too much trouble either as it was the finish that I wanted (can't have my timber decked speed boat yet so this will have to do). I cut down the strips to around 6mm (the same as the ply) and epoxied them onto the frame one at a time letting the outside strips overhang the ply. I then sanded the outside of the deck down to the hull shape and hit the top of them with a belt sander. I got the oregon off a mate who rescued it from an old butter factory so it's quite old and has a bit of character. Good luck with yours and hope to see some pics of your progress.
    Marty.

A first class boat launched on a perfect day - you must be very happy Marty.

How about adding pictures of your Murray adventures here when they happen?
