Default advise on buying a cnc mill

    Hi Everyone,

I am after some advise on buying a (second hand) cnc mill.

Budget wise, it seems I am looking at anything from $25k-40k.

It will be used for fabrication of automotive comnponents and may need a 4th axis, but I know I will need to spend more if that is the case.

    Where do I start?
    What do I look for?
Is there somewhere which will give me a summary of the ins and outs?

Just so you know, in the start, I will not be programming the machine, I will be designing the end product and having someone draw them up for me. I just want the machine so I do not have to outsource this kind of work.

    Cheers,
    Ariel

I say look for someone who sells new machines and ask if they sell 2nd hand ones from trade-ins.

powermachinery.com.au I know does trade-ins and im sure I saw some machining centers there last time I was there (about a year ago) they are at Dee Why, NSW.

    Or maybe machines4u.com

ebay.com (US) has quite a few but then you have the hassle of aranging transport to Australia (It might be worthwhile)

There is also importing a new unit from China the higher end of your budget might get what you want new as I know the maching centers dont go cheap unlike CNC Routers which are fairly basic.

I wouldnt know whats the best brand or nothing its just what I have seen around.
