Alibre Design Works in progress
So I thought I would start this off not sure how many of you have Alibre Design well Greg does (cant wait to see some of your work mate) but I thought I would show some of my work that I am playing with its nothing special and its more about learning Alibre Design.
Nothing better then to design a small desktop router that I can make on my mill hey kind of keeps it real and makes me work to constraints of the mill.
So this is just the bed I am having a few problems with constraints my understand is that constraints are when you constrain two parts together via mating in solidworks its real easy alibre its a bit harder but I think its just the way I am trying to do it.
I try to do a little learning each day as its something I can do on the laptop whilst spending quality time with the wife whilst she watches something like Anne of green gables or some female crap like that .
Anyone fell free to add some drawings.I like to move it move it, I like to move it.

Mate it actually works just need to listen a bit harder as I found out last night that I said yes to her buying an Ice Cream maker without even being aware of it lol.
Anyway another week a little bit more made up the SC-WUU Bearing Block this was fun couldn't find the DXFs so I had to look at Chai's drawing and make them up once again a learning experience.
I learnt a lot about the insert Axis tool and using constraints that way the alibre forum is a valuable tool when your not sure how to do something or having problems a lot like this forum.
Well this is far as this model will go in this direction I have decided to change it a little I am going to remove the 80x40 Extrusion and replace it with two pieces of 40x40 extrusion on each side this will allow me to run the bearings between the extrusion that's the good bit about starting a build this way I can see what I need to change and its bloody easy to change it.
More soon have a good weekend kidsI like to move it move it, I like to move it.

So had a fair amount of quality time with the wife on the weekend and came up with the following what's really cool about working in aliblre is that I can move the X axis back and forth looking for problems.
I made a ballnut that was fun not sure on the holes on it does anyone have a dxf they can send me so I can check the dimensions still have to do the ballscrew have no idea how to do that .
I have decided I am going to build this machine in the new year .I like to move it move it, I like to move it.

It's a little sparse on dimensions. What sort of sizes are we looking at here?

Do you think the unsupported rails are sufficient? All the designs I've seen recently have gone with supported rails.
I was going to ask earlier but site maintenance got in the way.Geoff

^-- same but I was waiting to see the dimensions.
Also about the extrusion, I would think the 80x40 would be better, not only would it align itself with the end plates (the 40x40 would rotate) if you get what I mean, but it would also provide additional support for the bed, or 60x60 would allow you to easily bolt some supported linear rails to it.
If I get time I'll draw up a design I had in mind at one point.
{EDIT} couldnt find my old design but heres what I was aiming at,

Are there any CAD files available for the AME profile stuff?
A CNC design might be just what I need to get motivated to actually use Alibre - which I've had installed for some time.Geoff
