Got a reply from the seller, they are very apologetic.
They realise they sent me the wrong cable.
They are offering me compensation we just have to come to an agreement about how much.
I guess a component inside the box blew up but it is sealed so I can't open it YET
I am not naming them as yet as they are co-operating with me.
I guess this was Murphy's lawEvery day is better than yesterday

Now I can name them:
Amonstar on ebay.
First they asked me to take the box to a tech and have it fixed at their cost but when I told them how difficult it is to get to a decent tech here, they offered to completely replace the box at no cost to me.
They also agree that they need to rewrite their manual in comprehensible English with a proper diagram.
I am happy with that.
They are extremely slow to respond to emails but always very pleasant and accommodating.
Hope I can get this machine up and running soonEvery day is better than yesterday

And the computer you blew up and the extra cable you purchased and the fuel used to get the cable?
A cash refund would have been the better option, then you could have put it towards a GeckoBob Willson

I remain confused.
The thread started with a photo of the back of a Centronics connector wired in an abnormal fashion, and with all the wires cut off. At a later point a cable between this (assuming the cut wiring was restored) and the PC caused extensive damage at both ends of the cable and tripped a circuit breaker. I and Bob surmised that this may have been the result of connecting the stepper driver output to the PC's printer port.
Even with a new control box, I can't see what's stopping that from happening again.

As I said earlier, they realise they sent me the wrong cable, so they are sending me the correct cable as well.
As to the rest of compensation, we are still negotiating.
Fuel cost doesn't matter as we were going to Cairns anyway. Cable I got for free. It may only have blown a fuse in the PC, I will find out on Tuesday when we are going to Cairns again. It pays to be reasonable.
I remember an earlier thread where the buyer was supplied with a new box at cost and had to pay postage again.
This is being shipped to me at no cost.
I am quite happy with the way they are handling this, apart from being slow to respond to emails.Every day is better than yesterday
