    Default Do all Ball screws have to have the same lead??

    Hi there,
    Wondering do all Ball screws have to have the same lead? so if I a to make a cnc does each screw have to have e.g. a 5mm lead? Or can you put in to the control program that they have different?

    They dont need to be all the same, X, Y and Z can all be different pitches and you just set the steps per mm or inch in mach 3.

    The only exception to what Chris said above is, if you have a dual drive slaved axis.

    For example one motor each side of the gantry, which is a common way of doing it.

    Then the master and slave axis must be the same steps per unit. (or same pitch lead screw)
