Sure do
The counterbores are better used on a drill press but you can use them in a hand drill or cordless.Cheers,

Limit swiches?
I have stripped down my machine and painted the steel 'ultra blue'. I have some 50mm square hollow sections for the base which I will get around to making one I have decided to bolt or weld and whether or not to put wheels on permanently or retractable.
Before I start putting it back together I also want to get the limit switches sorted so I can make provision for mounting and wiring.
Has anyone used JAPAN SUNX Proximity Sensors GL-8F as found on eBay?
Cheers
Brian

Hi Brian well done its looking bloody good, for the base either way you may have to shim the base of your machine though if you weld but then you may have to if you bolt as well .
Have you got a link to those switches had a quick search couldn't find them a lot of people have been using the Tend switches Bob has some on his machine and I think they are quite good quality I am going to use the Tends on my Mill.

Hi Brian
I just got back from a trip and been catching up on the BB.
The proximity switches look pretty good to me and the fact that they can be used with 24 volts is even better. If they were a 5 volt switch I would have been a little skeptical about their ability to suppress noise.
I was just looking at your drawings for the machine you are making and one thing struck me in particular and that was the height of the gantry sides. I can think of no practical reason to have the sides higher than the top of the cross beam, it will just add extra weight at the top of the machine.
Looking forward to seeing the build progressing.

na only did a serch on SUNX and then SUNX GL-8F and they didn't come up, and as I had other things to do as I am not retired I thought It was better to ask for a link so I could 100% understand what he was talking about.
As for height of the Gantry sides if you read the thread Bobs you will see this has been brought up on the second post as well as a few after stop looking at pics and and read the thread .
Hope you had fun in Melb.I like to move it move it, I like to move it.

Sean, Sean, Sean,
Me read the threads? I do believe that you are incorrect in your statement above. What was commented on earlier was the height of the cross member, not the gantry sides. Further to this; long after this was talked about Brian made a sketch (Page 13) showing the gantry sides as being a lot taller than the cross member. This being so, I think that I was quite within my rights to assume that Brian was going to build a gantry with very tall sides.

LOL you guys crack me up, what are you like when you get together?
I guess you are right Bob, when Rod suggested that I lower the gantry I lowered the gantry on the drawing but didn't adjust the the height of the gantry sides. I am going to leave them and use the height to support the cable chain to the spindle and z stepper. when I put it together I will see how it looks. Its like the butterfly effect, one small change leads to others down the line.
Is there a link to the Tend switches or should I just Google them?
The advantage I saw in the proximity switch is the size, pre-wired and enclosed but I guess you have to get a relay for each switch, that would be a disadvantage.
Cheers
Brian

Thats more like the size and price I am after.

Hi Brian
You only need the one relay. It is really a bit pointless having each switch on its own circuit and it saves a lot of work if you just daisy chain them together and you only need the relay because it is a 24 volt circuit as otherwise the BOB would handle everything.
I actually used these switches, but I might have used these if I had seen them at the time.

Thanks Bob,
You got me thinking about extra weight on the gantry so I took the bathroom scales out and it comes in at 32.5kg which now has me concerned if a 387 oz stepper is going to be man enough for the job
Cheers
