    Default Building your own drivers?

Just been looking around to find something similar to the Xylotex drivers as I have seen a few similar ones popping up on ebay.

Is there a schematic avaliable on the net? as there is 2 different designs up on ebay right now and they look to be using the same driver chips as the Xylotex.

Tried looking around but couldnt find anything.

BTW still around and building my cnc router I just havnt had the time lately.

    Hi Chris,
I have seen those drives popping up on ebay but beware some only handle 2.5 amps. The Xylotex uses the Alegro chip and some of the ones on ebay are using fets.
Sounds like I know what I am talking about but sadly I don't.
I would imagine this stuff is proprietry and you would have to go to one of the Yahoo groups to get a schematic. The risk there is it may not be proven.
HobyCNC do a kit but it is for six wire unipolar.
Good to see you are still around.
    Cheers,
    Rod

    Chris,

There are a number of thread over at cnczone.com that cover these eBay drivers as well as other low cost drivers from other sources. Some of these are available as kits.

If you're REALLY keen then there's a thread that covers the design of a stepper driver based on CPLD technology. This is from the designer of gecko drives and is aimed more at the engineer who want to know how these things work and to design their own drivers.
