    Default Buying a CNC Router

    Hi Guys,
I am probably the number 5 million when it come to posting that question, but I was not able to find an answer which really would have helped me.
I am looking in buying a cnc machine for cutting thin sheets of MDF (max. 20mm).
I have been in contact with red dot machinery in Sydney (I know that they are selling Chinese stuff). They were the cheapest but I just want to cover all my bases.
All the machine has to do is to cut MDF in certain shapes which is not really heavy duty to me. (Please if it is heave duty, help me out here).
I am just trying to find a direction. Please help.

    Cheers,
    Joerg

What is your budget for the router?

    What budget for software?

How tolerant are you as far as a long learning curve goes?

    How important is precision?

What power of router spindle do they have, & what sized chuck/collet maximum?

I would recommend only the established brands of non-chinese stuff, second hand. (eg. Tekcel, Matcam, multicam, esab...) There are some for sale at times in signwriting magazines like Image (online) of Visual Impact (online).

Alternately there is the build-it-yourself route.

Another option is to subcontract the cutting out to a shop with a machine & experience.

I find it is very much a 'you get what you pay for' case, and the cheaper the price, the greater the headache.

Other people are very helpful if you decide to build something, but the established and well respected companies do offer good after-sales support.

Try joining the CNCforums also- tons to learn there!

    (Hope that helps!)
