Finally got my software disks yesterday.
Yeah right, what a joke
Mach3 turned out to be the demo version of Mach2
The rest is either pirated/cracked copies or a gazillion years old.
Norton found the disk was loaded with Trojans and viruses.
NOT HAPPY JANEvery day is better than yesterday
Cheers

Just an update on my Carving CNC 6040 machine.
As I've mentioned, out of the box the machine works perfectly, but I've made a few mods all the same:
- Improved the earthing of the frame and VSD (though haven't earthed the spindle yet)
- Programmed and wired the VSD to switch on the cooling pump when the spindle starts
- Replaced the noisy supplied diaphragm pump with a submersible pond pump: eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
- Added a PWM temp controller to the case fan - I happened to have one of these hanging around: Oatley Electronics - I mounted the setting pot in the unused square hole next to the parallel port connector. This makes the case fan *much* quieter, and it'll speed up as the temperature inside the control box increases.
The last two make the setup much quieter.
The major todo item is adding spindle control. The interface board has a spindle PWM pin available, so it's just a matter of sorting out a PWM to 0-10V converter.

Cnc6040 mach3 software issues
I too had similar problem with the MACH3 software that came with my machine. As soon as I opened the file, I saw that it was bogus.
Since I was planning to buy the latest version anyhow, I just called the MACH3 guys ( NEWFANGLED SOLUTIONS), paid for the new version; downloaded it
and installed it with no problems. Elapsed time about 1 hour.
I have had my CNC6040Z+S80 up and running since mid-January with no problems with the machine.
