    On your X axis you say 5mm screws - are these 1605 screws? and will they be mounted in the location you have the belt drive mounts?

    cheers,

    Yep just 1605, I'll most likely be doing the same as you have done with a 2:1 increase or direct drive, depends how everything fits together as I need to make some room for the cable chain (Should be here soon)

    Yea just on the sides, around where the motors are.

    You've got me thinking about how to make the mist coolant nozel now I've got an idea but if it works or not who knows.

    I thought that was just a WD40 can with a red tube attached

    Item has them on their website

    Basic Elements // Profiles

    I think I exported the DXF and imported into Sketchup it was a massive size so I had to resize it.

    Find the profile you want and it has CAD data along with the weight ect.

    It's a little more complex that that, I was thinking more like a spray paint gun where it sucks up the liquid and the flow rate is adjustable. I gather this is how the one in the link rod posted works.

    Sorry mate was just taking the I was sure you would have been thinking of something a little more specialised.

    Cant see why an adapted spray gun nozzle wouldn't work maybe an airbrush nozzle or something along those lines.

    I think flow control ect. and air pressure would be the problem with the nozel, if you had the flow of WD40 it might as well be flood coolant :P

    I am hoping to make something from aluminium stock. I havn't got my new mini lathe yet so I cant do anything.

    I'll have a crack at making one from aluminium stock first, but if I end up buying one you've given me lots of options thanks for the links.

    What size profile did you use for your frame? Was it the light or heavy duty?

    120x60 all round, and 60x30 for the bed supports.

    All heavy profile.

    It's a bit overkill for such a small machine, but I am wanting to mostly machine aluminium plate.

    A little progress, its taken so long as it keeps raining whenever I have some free time.

    I'm thinking of using this enclosure to house both the motor driver setup and also the pc

    Ip rated switchboard housing 600mm x 380mm on stand (eBay item 110536021456 end time 17-Nov-10 11:49:13 AEDST) : Industrial

    Does anyone know if this will cause any issues if I house them together?

    BTW I found this guy while searching for switchboard enclosures, fairly reasonable price and free shipping.

    300 x 400 x 200 METAL ENCLOSURE SWITCHBOARD IP56 IP66 (eBay item 370451343167 end time 30-Nov-10 01:32:49 AEDST) : Industrial

    Says he stocks others also, might be worth bookmarking to some.

    Hi Chris,
    I got one of the 400 x 300 x 200 last night as they are a good size for a desktop and good value. You have me thinking about a Mini ITX in there now.

    I don't think a computer will trouble the electronics and if you put in a hinged steel plate you can have them totally separated by stacking one above the other. The enclosure has enough depth to do this.

    One thing I learnt about the last build and the cheap VFDs is to take more care with the high voltage stuff by isolating the inputs with filters.
    Cheers,
    Rod

    I will be buying bearings and ballscrews soon as I will finish the Z axis this weekend, I was thinking of buying these bearings

    7200 Nachi Angular Contact Bearing 10x30x9:Steel Cage3:Japanall Bearings:VXB
    51200 Thrust Bearing 10x26x11all Bearings:VXB

    I was wondering would this be the best setup?

    Blue = Thrust Bearing
    Orange = Single Angular Contact Bearing

    Material = 20mm aluminium
    Ballscrew = 1605 with 10mm shaft and 10mm thread.

    Hot Dam!!!! I'm getting me some of those thrust bearings!!! They'll sit nicely under my allthread to carry the weight of the table.

    They were alot cheaper than I was expecting, there is also a needle roller bearing type that VXB sells if you need a thinner bearing, but I think the ballbearing model would be better.

    Chris I have been looking at the same as you after retrofitting my mill and seeing the thrust bearings in it I am looking at using them for a different setup cheap as chips and the way to go the ones LMB sell seem to do the job (but no thrust bearing as your aware) and are ok but I think what you have above is a better setup but thats just my opinion seems like yours as well .

    Rod your thoughts do you concur.
