    Hey Rod,

It looks like I have deleted the all important message stating the start time. Is it 10 so you can have a sleep in? You being younger than me and us old blokes not needing as much sleep.

    Hi Bob,
Yeah 10:00 start time but I'm flexible if your arthritis is playing up in this cold weather.

I'm still setting up and tomorrow morning a trip to the shops for the ice and fresh buns before it starts. It's getting cold outside so might have to put on a second shirt but its not cold enough for shoes yet.
    Better get back to it.

    Hi Greg,
You will be missed - I am fairly sure the last one I held you were here. It's nearly twelve months since the Cairns gathering at Russell's. Are you typing from home or somewhere far - well further than Victoria anyway?
    Cheers,
    Rod

    Wolfie,
I travelled along with a few others to FNQ last year to Russell's gathering in Bubinda - yes it rained.

Hopefully you guys in the east can get something going in the near future. Like minded people always make it a fun event.

Well I am as set up as I can be. I managed to get six computers set up and hopefully three will bring along laptops. I didn't scavange the working machines computers so I can run four machines if the interest is there. On the computer for the Powerpoint demo I used a 42 inch LCD TV so no need to bring your glasses.
I look forward to meeting with everyone and hopefully we have a bit of fun and a good chinwag through the day.
It is a good cross section of people with younger to older and both genders attending.
If I get time I will post some pictures as the day progresses.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Well I had a great day due mainly to the good humour of all. The training was very open to what the group wanted and I did only one powerpoint and the rest of the day was directed by discussion at the time. We ran a couple of jobs. I did a demo on Tubot and then Gerry did a design from scratch and machined it on the Chinese machine. Time seemed to fly and we overshot the finishing time by a good hour. One day is not enough time so if there is another organised it should be two days.

I only managed to get three photos but BT might be able to add a few of his later.
The last photo is typical of how the day went - I think Warrick was sounding a good one liner in this instance.
Thanks to all who came along and I hope it was interesting and you got something out of the day.
    Cheers,
    Rod

It was a great day. A good opportunity to meet up with some good people, have a laugh and learn something valuable along the way. Thanks for doing it Rod.

We may not have got through everything that was planned, but what we did do was very well received and suited the interests of those present.

It would be good if we could do something similar on, say, a six monthly basis, and I would be happy to be the host next time. We'd still need your expertise and guidance Rod, but at least you wouldn't have to set it all up.

Thanks go to Leone too for being a great hostess. It was very much appreciated by all.

    Cheers

My sole disappointment was that the day passed all too quickly. A fantastic get together with a great bunch of people. Jo and Kevin, Warrick, Chris, Geoff, Gerry and our hosts Rod and his wonderful wife Leonie.

My understanding of CNC is becoming less clouded. I'm still not clear yet about the interface between the computer and the stepper motor. Rod's Powerpoint presentation did make the operating program appear less daunting to use for someone like me.

To witness Rod's Tubot running at speed was wondrous and confirmation of the man's skill.

    Thank you Rod and Leonie.

    Bob.

p.s. I'd glossed over the dress thongs. An appreciated gesture RM.

    Thanks Bob,
I was a bit worried I was over dressed breaking out the clean pair of thongs.
You have captured the day perfectly.
Thanks for your help with the BBQ and thanks to all for dismantling the computers.
I have made good inroads into the esky since and no doubt I will regret that tomorrow.
    Cheers,
    Rod

I had a great time today, enjoyed the demos as well as meeting everyone. Thanks again Rod and your lovely wife for putting this on. I only got one photo with the group as the rest I took were for ideas to help me finish my machine off

Default A Great Day .. Thanks Rod

Rod & Leonie, Thank you both for a very enjoyable day.

I learned heaps and will definitely be taking the plunge into CNC following your comprehensive explanations of how it all works. The automatic bit change and auto power on/off features on the 3040 had to be seen to be believed.

Thank you also to the other participants, who added their own stories, topping off a great day.

Just watched Mark Webber win the F1 in Monacco. But I think the awesomeness of your CNC machinery even eclipses an Australian winning the Monacco GP.

    Have a great week, Chris

With no house and no workshop left standing last year the least thing on my mind was woodworking
Hopefully this can happen again in the near future (not the cyclone, the GTG)
BTW The gumboot festival is on again soon, hopefully we will get the golden one this year. We have had LOTS of rain.

Hello Rod & Leonie, thank you for a fabulous day and for your hospitality.

Thank you also to the other forum members who attended it was great to meet you.
Rod thank you for taking the time to help us newbies to get a look at how CNC works and the chance to see in the flesh the machines that you have built. With this new understanding I will be looking at getting in to CNC in the near future.
    Cheers Gerry

Good to hear it has inspired a few to look more seriously at CNC. It is a great tool to compliment any of the traditional work done in the shed.

Geoff thanks for offering to host the next meet and I will be a starter for sure.

Bob I must have played up a bit as it took me a while this morning to figure out your quip.
    Cheers,
    Rod
