Very small CNC?
Hi CNC fans,
I'm after a very small CNC machine to do very basic wood engravings.
It would be lucky to need to do over 250x250 and in reality I can see it only ever doing no more than 200x100. The prime job Im wanting it for is 100x100.
Are there any good little machines I can simply plug onto the PC via USB that are the size of a printer or less?
This ISNT a workshop machine (even though it will be using the workshops PC) is simply to add engraving onto timber, not more than 5mm deep. Never any other material. I like quality gear, but really, I don't want/need another big machine in my tiny space and I dont want to offer it as a "service", it is simply to decorate box lids and embellish small objects.
It doesnt need speed. I have spare Dremels (how? I dont know!)
Anyone have a recommendation/s or wisdom?
TIA. Evan

Any machine in that size bracket is going to be 'toy' grade (not that there's anything wrong with that, just making the comment), so my only recommendation would be to buy from an Australian seller, then you're protected by consumer law if/when anything breaks.

Try XYZ-Carve - CNC Mill from 3DTek - Australian based company who gives excellent service.
Sent from my iPad using TapatalkArie.

I tried XYZ and their products are excellent. I was hoping for something very small. It is only for a very small job (but a long run, maybe).
The others are a metre across. I really want his to sit on a shelf

Recently purchased this machine direct from supplier in China. It is 4 axis unit with a 2.2 watt router as shown. Bed size is 600 x 400. 240 V single phase.
Came with controller, clamps, limit switches and some basic bits and collets. Other sizes are 300 x 400 and 600 x 900 bed sizes. 4 axis is an option. 1500 watt router also available.
Cost was $US 2000 delivered to Melbourne excluding customs duty via air freight (about $A 2800).

Fair call. But they're for modelling wax and resin only; max power 100W, max rpm 15k (half that on the SRM 20, definitely not useful here). Also, $16.5k and 5.5k respectively...

A tad more than I wanted to pay!
I was thinking $300.... At $1000, other projects/needs come to mind that are more important.... Better dust collection, some more planes, insulation....
Its only a small project, just auto carving lettering and simple imagry (lines). Nothing like marquetry or 3D masterpieces.... For that I'd be happy to buy an XYZcarve (which I've been within a hair of buying several times, but I've no space!!)... Or a laser!

This looks ideal; apart from the price.
Shaper Origin
Edit: Did a quick look at Aliexpress using just "CNC Router Woodwork" as keywords with min/max price of $100/300 US and came up with these hits: From what I can see you'd need to have an older XP computer to drive it but as you're a self confesssed PC nerd you should be able to cobble something together!Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

Thanks for everyones feedback and esp to those who took the time to send me IM's discussing their gear and what I should look out for.
As a beginner its a worry, for there is so much to learn.
I was looking at a 1000mm unit made by XYZ-Carve here in Oz. They have an overpoweringly good rap on various CNC forums... This machine is starting to appeal to me, but is still twice as big as I was hoping for: https://3dtek.xyz/collections/all/pr...oko-2-cnc-mill
But I cant be too choosy!
I'll need to save the bikkies

WP
have you seen these machines https://boxzy.com/shop/
they seem to be about the size you are looking for, though the cost is maybe 10x the $300 you spoke about above
I also came across this https://www.theverge.com/2017/3/10/1...er-kickstarter
I know nothing about either machine other than what I read on their respective websitesregards from Alberta, Canada
