Guys,
I am about to start on the Z axsis and I would like to know if people think 100mm is wide enough for the Z axsis.
I hope it is as otherwise I need to start casing aluminium plate which equals more time and $$$$.
Cheers

Hi Steve,
You are not giving enough information to be able to answer. Will 100mm pick up both trucks on your Y axis? Does this allow enough room to fit your trucks and ballscrew on the Z axis? What size spindle are you going to use - ie will a 100mm width pick up the mounts for the spindle?
As a general rule 100mm wide will be fine as long as all the above can be done.
By the way no need to cast plate as you can buy a chunk any width up to 2400 wide and 1200 long and thicknesses well above what you require. I go to Smart Aluminum and they cut it for me and I walk out with what I need.Cheers,
Rod

Hi Rod,
Thanks for the prompt reply, your right not enough info but I will measure all those items tonight. As far as the spindle goes I am using a Bosh GMR-1 Trimmer as the spindle at this stage so I don't think the spindle mount will be an issue.
The other items will need to be measured and visualised so I can make a call on them.
Thanks Rod,
Cheers

Progress
Hi Rod,
A little slow I am afraid as we purchased a new secondhand car and I have had to do some work on this mechanical machine so time and money have been a little limited.
Also waiting on some ally for the table top and Z axis mount to allow me to continue. That's my excuse anyway.
More pictures soon!!!
Cheers

Don't worry we all have an expectation to finish a machine earlier than we do. Because it takes so long other things do get in the way.
I like the look of your machine and am interested to see how it turns out.Cheers,

Hi Rod and all,
Just a quick post to let you all know I am still working on the machine. I have been interstate working since my last post and back to hospital to have a rod and screws removed from my leg last week. I am on the mend now and hope this is the last time I have to go to hospital again as this was the fourth op for this broken leg!
As with all things I had planned to be in Melbourne for the CNC BBQ but the planning was out by a week and this meant I missed the Brisbane BBQ as well! All I can say is bugger, hope I can make it next year.
Should have more progress shortly.
Cheers

Hi Steve
I wasn't game to ask how it was going again.
Glad to hear the leg is on the mend and look forward to the next installment.
I scored 83kg of new 75 X 50 X 5 ally angle for less than $3.00 kg last week so I am toying with doubling it up and making another gantry router. It's fast becoming a long to do list so I better knock a bit off the top before I get too carried away.Cheers,
Rod

Still here just time poor at the moment
Hi All,
Just a quick post to say I have not been able to even look at the site the last little while as work, and yard work read drainage has been the priority.
I will have something to post again soon.
Cheers

A little progress
Hi all,
I have a little progress to report, I received cable chains from China a couple of days ago and so more incentive to push on. Trouble is as I am sure most of you will know there are always other things that must or do take up your time. I am in the middle of a drainage and retaining wall build at the moment which is limiting my time on the CNC build. I have made a little progress on the Z Axsis though, I will have photos when the Z nears completion.
Cheers
Steve
