    Default CNC Lathes

Are there any CNC lathe users on here? I bought John H's Syil C6B and am having a bit of fun working out the Coordinate system, for instance if I try and use a Mach 3 wizard to turn a radius on the end of the shaft, which way is z plus and x plus etc. I know it isn't hard, just a little confusing when you haven't done it before. Most of the diagrams I have found have the tool on the backside of the chuck which is even more confusing.

Watch out for the first paragraph in the link.

He has his description of the Right Hand Rule all screwed up.

Z- is towards the chuck, Z+ away from the chuck.
X- towards the work piece, X+ away.

If your tool is rear mounted, Mach3 should take care of reversing the X axis so that X- is still towards the work piece.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Thanks for the replies, Peter's answer was probably the most helpful, as in keep it simple stupid! (for me) I have just got the coordinates into my head for my mill and then was confused by the online info, as Greg said it was buggered up.
I still would be interested to hear from any other CNC lathe owners out there.
