My CNC machine "Woody"
After the CNC event at Rods I thought I would post a few photos of the machine I have been building
It is 1200 x 1200mm with 25mm rails on the X axis, 15mm on the Y axis and a all in one actuator for the Z axis. It is rack and pinion drive on X and Y axises.
There is still a lot to do but I am getting there, I have collected the electrics and that will be the next major part of the project to be tackled.
The basic design is a cross between Rod's and Greolt's machines
It does have a name "Woody"
Regards
Warrick

Looking good. It's going to be a good robust machine by the look of it. Keep posting your progress.

Hi Warrick,
About time we saw what you have been up in the hills - well worth the wait.
How are you machining your parts?Cheers,

Warrick,
For others and my interest, can you provide some detail on.
1. How is the rack attached? I can't see bolts on the top or bottom of the X supports.
2. What ratio are you using on each axis. What resolution does this give?
3. Gantry side plate thickness?
4. Supplier of your rack and the modulus
Feedback: I've got exactly the same base frame as you and I found prior to stripping it down last week it shook a little when doing fast jogging cuts. I will be adding a cross brace as part of the refit to minimize this.

So looking at your picture, will you be sitting in the SPA when the machine is running? (Well it looks like a spa at the bottom right)

Nice rigid looking machine.
Very similar design to mine.

That is not a spa although we do have one. It is and old blanket box that has since gone the tip. If I open the side door to the shed I can see the cnc from the spa
Greg,
The idea of using the heavy c beam for the sides did come from yours, I spent a lot of time studying yours and Rods before I came up with this design. The internet is such a great place, you can look at so many great machines and pick the best ideas to suit your needs and budgets
