My first CNC router!
As mentioned in another thread about Chinese machines for sale on eBay, I ordered this one last week and it's finally here!
No problems in ordering or delivery. I ordered and paid for it late on the 19th (nearly midnight local time), order was confirmed the next day and it was in Melbourne (via Sydney) on the 22nd. Delivery in Hobart was attempted on the 26th but as no one was home, I went over to the courier depot yesterday to pick the two boxes up.
To say it was well packed is an understatement! It took me about 30 minutes just to get the boxes open and the bubble wrap undone. No obvious damage and all bits present as expected.
All that's missing is assembly instructions
I spent an hour in my storage unit trying to find the PC I bought for CNC over 12 months ago. Here's a hint if you're planning to move house - LABEL THE BOXES!
Assembly and testing may have to wait until I have a place of my ownLast edited by snowyskiesau; 30th July 2011 at 04:07 PM. Reason: Fixed URL

Hi Geoff,
After many years of contemplating you have finally got your machine.
As I said in the original thread I don't think you can go go past these machines for price and convenience. Yeah sure they need some tweaking down the track with limit switches, Z axis touchplates and laser crosshair or video positioning systems but they are quality units and ideal for kicking off your hobby.
I hope you enjoy the experience and look forward to seeing some projects come off that machine. Beware it's addictive and opens doors that you never thought you could achieve before. Don't be shy in posting your projects in the projects thread either.Cheers,
Rod

Hi Rod,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. It has been a few years since I got interested in CNC, courtesy of one of your first builds. but number of things got in the way of me making any progress on a DIY beyond sourcing a few components (hope the ballscrews and bearings are happy in their new homes)
The mechanical components of this machine are worth the price alone, plus it's already put together
The water pump for the spindle looks a bit fragile so I might check out aquarium pumps as a replacement. I haven't opened up the controller yet but I'm warming up the screwdrivers and after the next cup of coffee ...
No documentation provided nor is there any software. I already have a license for Mach 3 that's not a problem. I will need to get a couple of power cords as the ones provided are round pin European style - plus a couple of bulky (unearthed!) adapters.Geoff

Hi Geoff,
Your link in your first thread doesn't work but if your machine is a 6040 then this might be the manual here.Cheers,
Rod

the life of living on an island postage vans can't scoot across water
now there's an opening Geoff if ever I saw one for a man with a big van.
I await first video of the CNC inn action.

So what was the total landed cost the Geoff?
if it is cheap enough then I may get one of these as well.

Bob,
Details here from their eBay page. It might be a bit cheaper now as the $A is about 4c better than when I bought.
It might also be worth making a lower offer that I did ($US1600). My initial offer of $US1100 was declined but something between those two, may be accepted.
Expect to add the cost of a water pump as the one supplied looks pretty fragileLast edited by snowyskiesau; 30th July 2011 at 04:08 PM. Reason: Fixed URL

Geoff, as you bid on the item you can see Ebay details, but no-one else can
. Perhaps you could do some screen prints, then transfer to a file, and post that

Thanks Neil,
I'd picked up the wrong eBay link by mistake.
EDIT: I just found this link from the same seller that I used, but shipping only $80! Assuming they accepted the same $US1600 offer I made, at current exchange that's only $A1451! I could probably ship mine back for a refund and make a profit ...Geoff

So, they are obviously quite flexible in their pricing structures.

I don't have a problem with them reducing the price they sell the unit for, after all I could have made a lower offer than I did.
It annoys me a little when they drop the cost of shipping by half, it shows how much of their profit comes from shipping.Geoff

In this case I don't think they are overcharging you for delivery. On some of the other items I have seen postage of about $700, so this makes $150 quite reasonable.
I bought a CD on Amazon the other week and when they sent the invoice it included an amount of $74 for postage. They justified this by saying that Amazon required them to send the item a particular way so that they would get a signed receipt. Bulls*it. I canceled the order.

I don't think $150 is the correct amount, the best rate I have ever gotten was ~$8 kg and worst being ~$15 kg, this is via courier (this varies if the customer has an account, courier ect.)
Unless somehow its being subsidised by their government
Regarding the waterpump maybe look at the pc watercooling pumps? you can then build the pump, reservoir inside the pc you intend to use (just check for leaks)
