CNc router controller and usb
I use an old Pentium windows xp tower to drive my router. The computer has a centronics printer port for the interface.
The computer has died. Before I spend time and money fixing it is anyone using a USB interface with a notebook computer?
10 years ago I was assured this was not possible as notebooks had interrupt issues with the controllers.

There is a USB smooth stepper available - Product Details but I have not used one.
From all I have read, the ethernet smooth stepper is the recommended choice. I have only just installed one to replace my old printer port controller and it is an vast improvement.

Assuming you need controller software to go with the new hardware.
Don't overlook UCCNC. They have matching hardware.
Recommend Ethernet hardware. Much more robust connection.

I use a notebook running Windows 10 and Universal G-Code Sender to drive this via USB:
3DTEK | GRBL AIO
Works a treat.
Notebook is about the cheapest thing you can think of and close to 10 years old.
