Default CNC router made of MDF

I understand that some forum members may look at the homebuilt machines shown and think "all metal work", "fully equipped machine shop needed", "not my thing"

Here are a couple of pics to show what is possible to build with not much more than wood working tools.

Primarily MDF and some HDPE and able to produce some remarkably good work.

This machine is called the Joe2006. Plans are freely available.

Blokes in sheds all over the world have built this very machine. At least one in Brisbane and one in Sydney that I know of.

Pipe and "skate" bearings for linear rails. All thread for linear motion.

This is not my router, I have that machine shop.

The example in the pics was built by a CNCzone member called Ccsparky

Link to his build log http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27548

And the video is of another builders effort cutting a job.

Youve got to admit greg, for an mdf design its pretty well thought out, for someone that wants to experiment a bit, its probably a great step into the cnc world

Here's another MDF based CNC router. It's worth reading his construction log - mostly built in the bedroom except for the routing which was done in the bathroom

I'm planning to build one of these - as soon as I get a job

Yeah it's the best MDF design I've seen. And as you say well thought out. That's why I posted about it.

Perhaps some here on a wood work forum might look at it and say to themselves "I could do that !!"

    I found this picture today.

Partial assembly. Gives a good idea of the construction method.

This one is being done by two sixteen year old school boys.

The two sixteen year old boys have posted some video of their machine assembled minus screws and motors.

    Great to see their enthusiasm.
