Default Your CNC can seriously hurt you!

As mentioned in another thread.. It turns out the cutter was never designed to be run at the 34,000 rpm it was running at. A lack of labelling on the cutter packaging was partially to blame.
So just a reminder to everyone to be safe and at the very least wear safety glasses in the vicinity of your router

Woman dies in workplace accident - National - theage.com.au

A 31-year-old woman has been killed in an industrial accident at a cabinet-making factory in Melbourne.
The woman was operating an industrial router yesterday when the bit disintegrated and a piece hit her in the chest.
WorkSafe has launched an investigation into the accident at the East Bentleigh factory, in Melbourne's east.
WorkSafe executive director John Merritt said the death was a tragedy for the woman's family and workmates.
"With many businesses finishing today before holidays, we can only urge employers and workers to keep their mind on what they're doing and not be distracted by upcoming holidays and celebrations," he said.

The article was written in December 2006 and you still can buy cutters today without a max speed rating.

On a CNC machine the cutter is exposed most of the time and we all stand at the end of our machines in the firing line if something goes wrong. Chance and luck will not protect you forever.

I exclude youngsters from my shed because their heads are in the firing line of most machines and they have a tendancy to have fiddle fingers.
A good friend of mine never forgave himself when he turned off a buzzer and walked away then his niece ran her hand along the table top and removed the tips of four fingers while the machine was winding down.

Not lecturing anyone and thanks for the heads up NastySpill.
    Cheers,
    Rod
