Coolant and pumps and spindles
I am having difficulties getting various pumps delivering my meths coolant.
I bought a couple of Coles brand spray bottles, but they only worked for a few hours before succumbing to the meths.
I was using the Bijur spray that Sawdustsniffer suggested. It also started off OK but now it seems to have decidedd that it is only going to work when it feels like it.
I have ordered a fuel pump from someone at Paradise Point, it should arrive in a few days. I hope it works.
At the same time, my spindle seems to be having a problem all of its own as well. It sometimes won't start immediately and needs me to manually spin the bit to get it started. This seemed to start happening after the cutter jammed in the material for a abut 10 - 15 seconds. It also now seems to lack a bit of powerBob Willson

Hi Bob,
I'm not sure about the internal construction of the spindle motors, but for a standard wound rotor motor, such as drills and small DC motors, if you need to kick start the motor, it usually means there's a wire come away from the commutator, or an open circuit in the system somewhere. Sometimes a squirrel cage motor will get hot and lose power from an internal short in the rotor cage, but it's not usually a problem with getting away.
Maybe take it to an armature winder to check it out? They're usually pretty good at diagnosis of motor problems and can determine what the problem is and a likely cause of the problem.
Hope this helps.

I measured across the terminals of the spindle while it was cold and got 5.6 ohms on each sector. ie 1 - 2, 2 - 3 and 3 - 1.
I will run the spindle for a while now and see if these figures change.
No, they didn't. What did change is that after a short warm up cycle the requirement to hand start the spindle became mandatory. I can hear the VFD changing volume but nothing happens. Prior to that , when the spindle was cold, then it would start normally.
After the warm up and after mal running, the resistance across the three terminals remained the same.Bob Willson
