Default Depth controller for cnc router

Thought someone might find this little project useful. I have a depth controller that i used on my old 6040 cnc. It used the kress router motor, but because i sold the motor with the machine i need to modify the depth controller to fit another router. Using my current spindle motor is not an option due to it's size and weight.

The plan is to use a router that is reasonably similar in size to the kress. Buying another kress router is not an option due to the cost. So i bought an ozito router from Bunnings. Next step is to make a new mounting bracket for this router and a mounting bracket to the z axis. Possibly someone might want to "copy" the design of this depth controller cause it's a reasonably easy design.

    Pictures to follow

Few holes to drill then time to machine the mounting plate for the z axis. It did not come out exactly as i hope cause the alu plate was slightly under size and the work piece moved slightly during milling. Will have to improve my clamping techniques This depth controller works great for engraving...done some pcb routing, it gives perfect results

I don't understand what this is?

    Don't you have a Z axis?

It bolts onto the z axis....picture will follow
It allows you to engrave at precision depth even on a slightly uneven surface...

It seems like there are two modes:
Milling, where the tool is locked to the Z-axis, and
'floating', where it can move up and down separately to the Z-axis. In this mode, does the white nose piece actually contact the workpiece, so depth of cut is relative to the workpiece surface?

You are correct, you can lock it in for "normal" milling. Yes the white plastic touches the work when engraving...it does not cause any marking on the wpiece
