    Default Desktop cnc

hi all, I am thinking about getting a desktop CNC 1000 X 1000 cutting area or 1500 X 1500 cutting area for small timber pieces and also sheet goods like door panels etc. has anyone had experience with such cncs and would you recommend them as a good investment for a small business?

Most units are sold with dimensions being the outer footprint excluding motors, drag links etc. you loose about 200 to 225mm between footprint and cutting area.
Here are some common size showing footprint vs cutting area

For larger cutting areas, you may need to go custom built unless you want to spend $$$$$ on a semi industrial unit.

I have a smaller, self built unit which I use for my own hobbies/ builds. I haven’t tried making money from it yet.

Don’t forget, on top of the unit itself you will need software, CNC bits etc whose costs add up quickly.

i answered a similar post and supplied a number of Australian suppliers. I’ll try and find it and post a link.

I've not seen much between the various suppliers with regard to price. My supplier has moved on from providing hobby units and moved into the mid range units for the 24k and above figure. Given its open source design I can still get parts as needed from the maker store and other sites.

Was he tied up with Adam’s Bits that supply the ”bluecarve” CNC?
