Wouldn't be Fisheries, would it?
Couldn't you have got the old sugar mill?
Not being used for anything anyway.
Nice for a change that something is withing driving distance from us.
I'm in.
Cheers

Hi Wolfie, nup not fishery, a set of sheds between there and Babinda.
Yeah the mill is certainly just sitting there doing nothing these days, seems weird that it is empty during the season.
Look forward to seeing you there, feel free to bring along anything that you think may be of interest, especially unfinished machines, makes the rest of us feel better if we know others have benches with unassembled parts in their sheds as well
Cheers.

Thanks for the opportunity to see what others are doing with their machines. I am just up the road at Gordonvale, so I will be there. I have built the machine out of “ Build Your Own CNC Machine” .I have not made anything with it yet except to start machining the plywood parts for another bigger CNC router. Its gantry design will be based on the greenBull with chain drives for the X and Y axis, but with an open steel frame. Cutting area is 3.5M x 1.5M with a 4th rotary axis. Hopefully by July next year I will have produced something with it.
Regards
Peter

Hi Peter, that sounds like a big machine you are going to build, probably won't fit in a box trailer to bring to the BBQ, lol.
I was surprised last year at how many people came to the BBQ from the local area, and by the looks of it there are going to be a lot more by next year, can only be a good thing I reckon.
See you there, if not before.
Cheers.

Went to Cairns today.
Still can't work out where those sheds are
Are they north or south of the fancy place with the shop mannequins?
Cheers

Hi Wolfie, I think I know the place you are talking about and they are north, though there isn't much there right now, some old farm sheds full of old machinery, we have lots to do before next year.
If things work out we are thinking of plonking a 5 ton Kuka style welding robot on the side of the road to mark the turnoff.
Cheers.

Just a quick message to let everybody know that the BBQ is still happening, I am contacting our previous sponsors to see if they are able to contribute to this one, and will post details as they emerge.
Hope to see you there !

Got it in my diary, nothing else on that date yet, I think it is the Cairns show long weekend.
Yup, Cairns show is 17,18,19 July so the Friday will be a holiday.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Hi Cliff, you know I thought I checked for holidays etc before deciding on the date, oh well I guess it won't really interfere as it is the day after the show, unless people are going away for the weekend...
Hi Wolfie, well if you work it all out you can teach me a thing or two !

I have started to invite vendors to sponsor the event and I have to say the prize pool is looking very nice so far !
I think we may rival the last BBQ held up this way as far as door prizes go, pretty happy with that.
The plan is to have machines running on the day so things like software demonstrations will be complete from start to finish, including machining.
Also it looks like we will have a reasonable amount of hardware to give away on the day.
Cheers.
