FNQ Cairns-CNC BBQ-20 July 2013...Bigger and Better !!!
Hello everybody, I am pleased to announce that we will be holding another CNC BBQ in 2013. I am aware that this is very early notice but with the last one we had 8 months notice and I felt we could have done with a little more time.
The date will be the 20th of July 2013.
Again the theory is that it is a nice time of year in the tropics, so any of the southern folk that make the trip will feel comfortable. Also the fishing is good that time of year which is important since we have to make sure the food is better than last year
I have read through the first post of the last BBQ we held and have to say we didn't achieve a lot of the goals I set out in that post, so this time I will just say that we will just make it a bigger and better BBQ, including both machines AND food !
The venue has been secured, a triple bay shed approx 300sq.m in size.
The intention is to have machines running on the day, so for woodworkers interested in checking out if they should buy/build/borrow a machine they can bring in small jobs and they can be machined on the day, so there will effectively be all day software demonstrating along with machining of the finished product.
I think I can safely say that there will be a good assortment of home made and Chinese import machines to check out, with a retrofitted engraver or two.
Our sponsor list is looking pretty good so far, the list (in alphabetical order) :
AusXmods - Assorted CNC related parts
"Gearotic Motion Gear design Software" - 2 gearmotion licences
Geckodrive Step Motor Controls, stepper drives, servo motor controls - Assorted motor drives
Homann Designs - Assorted CNC related parts
ArtSoft USA - Home of Mach3 and LazyCam - Mach licence and two Newfangled Mill Wizard licence's
Keep the date free and hope to see you on the day !Last edited by Big Shed; 24th March 2013 at 12:35 PM.

Hi Tony, see you there. I know what you mean about needing notice, though I already feel like I am running out of time to get everything organised in time, lol.
Cheers.

Hey Daniel, didn't you live in Brissie at one stage ? Wouldn't have been such a long drive if you hadn't moved
Big Shed, we will be just south of Cairns, a bit over half an hour drive (just north of Babinda)
It is a little tricky to describe the turn off, but we have an idea that should make it pretty easy to spot, will post pics if it works.
Cheers.

Tried updating the title to include Cairns and the exact date (not many people know where Babinda is) but the edit button must have timed out, might ask a mod nicely if they could change it (hint hint)

Well there you go, for some reason I had it in my head that you lived in Brissie and only moved when you built the new place...must be old age kicking in
You never know, sometimes there are cheap flights to be had, when I went to a Melbourne BBQ the flights were cheaper than a nights accommodation...
Cheers.

Hey Tony, yeah the mining boom probably hasn't helped things there, it's not a bad drive though if you have a bit of time...and lots of fuel, lol.
Cheers.
