    Default Free 3D model Service

Hey guys, for those interested in 3D modelling, I got this link again for joe’s forum. The link http://labs.autodesk.com/utilities/photo_scene_editor/getting_started/ It’s called Photofly.
It is a free service, so you gotta like that, you simply download the viewer and install, upload your pics to there server, and then you need to register that’s it. If it is all good you have your model. I have saved the model as an obj extension and used it with Aspire, but didn’t do any cutting simple because I haven’t done any 3d work as yet. I have a garden ornament of a squirrel as test model, took 83 pic's of the squirrel. After i had cropped all of them and fixed the exposure I upload the files which took about 15 min, and another 10 min for the processes to happen, and there it was in the viewer. Hope this is useful to someone needing 3d models.
Oh here is another link to a web base service, and also free https://www.hypr3d.com/
    Cheers

Wow!... nice link.. Giving it a test but pretty impressed so far, if it gives you a usable model to cut then this just solved my search for a 3d scanner (affordable).

Be very interested in the resolution I get back from the high res model its processing now but the draft was pretty good as a start point .

    Thanks heaps

Yep it would certainly be much cheaper way to go, by using a service like this, the model I got was good, but not a lot of detail in the model. But then again not sure of resolution you would go from a 3d scanner.

The first test I did was of a garden frog made of concrete. Very weathered and with a rough texture which seemed to help alot with the stitching. Standard res was really good IMO and would be a great start for something like z-brush or similar at a guess.
Getting dimensionally accurate scans however might be beyond its capability,,, doing some tests.

I shot 22 pics on a dirty plastic outdoor table with teh frog full frame (I think the texture of the table/background helps alot to in getting good scans)

My guess is that this is a beta release and they will allow you to use it for awhile then once they nut out the bugs and test the market it will become a subscription of high price add on. Its what happened with Vector Magic and Robo Realm to name a few (great s/w but it now costs)

So my suggestion would be to play with it as much as possible while its still free.. I doubt it will last.

    cool

gets the camera out on his violin

i think the accuracy would be in the way you take your photo's , so ill use a telephoto lens , set it up square and level on an index table , so each shot is exactly the same angle difference from the last , and on the same plane

the square-er the camera is, the less lens distortion , and a telephoto lens would help even more , stay away from wide angle lenses

Will the attempt i did was with a cement squirrel, and I did use a dslr with a telephoto lens on a tripod, as the instructions says on their website, I took a picture at ever 10deg around the object, will roughly 10degrees I did this 2 times at 2 different height's, and few directly from the top of the object, which gave me 82 pic's. The 3d squirrel model came out well for a first attempt. If I was more into 3d model I would investigate it more.
