    Default Help with Calculating Steps for Rotary Axis

    Has anybody got the formula for calculating steps for a rotary axis.
    I assume Mach3 calcualtes it per degree.

    I have a belt driven 4th axis with a 12 tooth pulley on the stepper, a 27 tooth pulley on the rotary and 200 step per revolution stepper. I assume I have 8 microsteps but don't know as it is Chinese origin without instructions.

    I plugged in lots of variations and 10 steps seems to be right but given the 12 to 27 ratio of the pulleys it seems a little strange.

    So anybody got a formula I can check this?

    27/12 = 2.25 ratio x 200 steps = 450 steps per rotation x driver multipler 8 for example = 3600/360 = 10 steps per degree

    I think thats right

    It sure is right.

    My logic was backwards taking the 12 divide by 27.
    Very reassuring to see the figure calculated.
    I ran it through 720,000 degrees and the index lined up correctly so this confirmed it was correct but had a nagging thought that 10 was too perfect a number to be correct.

    Its funny how when you work with CNC for a while, that any whole numbers, starts ringing bells and you start questioning your logic. lol. Its almost like going shopping and getting a perfect dollar value at the register.

    On a side note Rod, got a nice piccy of the indexer?
